Most of the liberals I know don't consider Obama a peacenik. Plenty of Democrats might however.
Yeah, I don't know many either. I've never considered him a peacenik myself. He has worked to draw down the wars, but I still wouldn't qualify him as a "proponent" of peace.
Honestly? I have a tougher time explaining why conservatives are now worried about "peace."
Because sometimes people change for the better. Also, the Republican party has always been the peace party compared to the Democrats. Heck, Bush in 2000 campaigned on this somewhat: critical of Clinton in Bosnia, etc. as hypocritical as that might be.

You cite Bush as proof that the GOP is the party of peace???

That's funny. I'm generally liberal on most issues, but I find party politics more about "branding" than the actual content of the candidate's policies. For example, there's a group of baby boomers that holds up signs every weekend "Support Our Troops --- Bring Them Home" and the like. I briefly considered holding up a sign nearby: "Support Gary Johnson -- The only candidate supporting immediate withdrawal from Afghanistan" or some such, but I truly wondered how gracious the response would be!
