The very same Tennessee Republican lawmaker who authored the “Don’t Say Gay Bill,” which apparently was to prevent the epidemic of people leaving their spouses and marrying another dude/gal whenever gay stuff is mentioned, is back with some even more ridiculous homophobia.
Tennessee State Senator Stacy Campfield (R) must have been too busy ***** bashing that he missed Sex Ed since he thinks that only homosexuals can get Aids.
“The homosexual community gets AIDS at a 50 times higher rate than the heterosexual community,” he claimed. Campfield said AIDS was such large problem in Africa because sodomy was more prevalent in that part of the world. He added that sodomy was a “deadly thing to do.” (Raw Story)
Well it’s a good thing that the Republican Party is really heeding Gov. Jindal’s advice of not being the stupid party, which is like heroin to the Republican party. Obviously Campfield didn’t get the memo (Tweet?) that AIDS affects millions of heterosexuals too.

Do you live in Tennessee? Me neither..... so don't move there or visit there to make a point. Otherwise, although wrong, it doesn't concern either of us

No, Tennessee does not say it all. There is (was?) an old body of hillbilly jokes involving east Tennessee Republicans. The 'progressive' writer who wrote this hit piece either is trying to smear all Republicans with the same brush, or, also likely, is unfamiliar with distinctions between east Tennessee backwater hillbillies and more enlightened Republicans.
As the author makes no mention of where the described miscreant is from, it's hard to say whether the writer is equally ignorant, or is knowingly hiding a material fact from his readers, but I am suspicious.

Whether this is based on what really was said or the writer took what he said out of context I don't know and I don't think many of us really care what he said. Why does this bother or concern you? You live in CA, and will not be choosing who the Republicans elect or what happens in TN. I don't get the point of your posting...
The quote is probably accurate, this loon has a long history of batchit crazy statements under his belt.
I am from Tennessee.
This guy was originally from New York although he has lived in east Tennessee for a couple of decades. I have no idea why anyone would vote for him, it's not my district. My best guess is that he was running against someone with severe brain damage or multiple indictments. Or both. Seriously though, some of the east Tennessee district are gerrymandered to the point that they can be won by anything with an 'R' after their name, the primaries usually take out the worst of the crazy but something obviously slipped through here.
I live in East TN, but have never heard of this twit. Suffice it to say he does not "represent" a sizable portion of the people here. Yes, there are some that would blindingly follow him because of their own backward beliefs (and because of the Kool-aid drinks he serves at his rallies) but they most certainly aren't representative of ET people.
Why do Republicans and conservatives spend so much time thinking about the lives of gay people?
It is probably because the lawmaker is a closet homosexual.
