The father of this girl I use to date worked at CVS, pretty sure he wasn't making much more than min wage. They made it work somehow.

Haven't we been over this? AFFORDABLE HOUSING IS AVAILABLE!!! Houston has no zoning regulations whatsoever.

If an individual with minimal capital wants to start their own business, they need to find other investors. If the other potential business owners also have minimal capital they need to pool capital from a larger number of people, which triggers SEC involvement and a lot of expense and red tape.

Only a small number of people could move to Houston before it becomes unaffordable.

Was he married? Did mom work? Did mom collect welfare? Did they live rent-free with the grandparents? Maybe mom or dad inherited a house without a mortgage?

So don't tell anyone. Illegals make it work all the time. There are plenty of cheap places to live, but you decide whether or not you want to live there.

He was married. Both parents worked. I think he may have been in the military at some point and was working at CVS after the downturn. I don't remember what he did before that, but the house was bought before the downturn.
