Its a reasonable request. I am glad it was followed. She should get over it. Would she rather not follow her bosses orders and be fired? It was a simple request. You do what's best for the patient.
Unless Daddy was a nurse specializing in the care of neo-nates in ICU situations he has no idea what's best for the patient.
Then he needs to take his child home where he is in charge.
White nurses and doctors for white patients, black for black, etc etc...its easier for everyone.I can't count how many times I have gone to a doctor and could not understand what a non white doctor or nurse was saying to me..its a dangerous situation when you can't understand a doctor's words because they speak english as a 2nd language.

I don't care what color the skin is on a doctor or nurse, I only care that I'm getting the best medical treatment available.
Not all non whites speak English as a second language, and not all whites speak well. There are many whites here in Mississippi that I need a translator to understand.

Then either get homecare or only visit phsycians that meet you approval. The rest of the world hasn't incurred an obligation to accommodate your idea of optimum patient care.
Were I the nurse in charge I would have informed him that unless he would like to stroll on down to Human Resources and apply for my job he could quit telling me how to handle staffing in the neo-natal ICU.
My guess is the hospital reasoned that they had the staffing to accommodate his (bigoted) request, and figured that was better for the child than risk Daddy of the Year taking the child away or create a hostile situation. Guys who have swastika tattoos and pronounce their hate tend to intimidate reasonable people.
Rather than put a note in the child's file saying no AA nurses, they should have briefed the nurses on the situation and explained why they thought that was the best course of action. This would have given the nurses the opportunity to possibly suggest other options.
The only other "option" I can think of is that the father should take the child to a different hospital! NICU nurses are highly trained. That should have been the father's only concern. If I were the charge nurse (and I've been one) I would not allow this father to bully the staff like that.
