After-school meals are now being served to high school students who are involved in after school activities, San Elizario Independent School District (Texas) officials said. Supper is offered at 4 p.m. and ends at 4:30 p.m. at the high school's cafeteria. The program, which began May 1, is funded through a reimbursement grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture Child and Adult Care Food Program. Students who opt to stay for supper get a $3.21 meal for free through the grant reimbursement program.
I think it is a good program... Personally, I don't think ANY students should have to pay for lunch at school... supper is definitely a bonus... I wish I could be wealthy enough to pay all the student lunches...
How about the novel concept of children being fed dinner either in their own home or a caregivers'?
students at school from 7 or 8 in the morning till 4:30 in the late afternoon would get mighty hungry waiting for a parent to drop by who works all day.

Both of my parents worked all day, my father even worked two jobs, and yet somehow they managed to either be home themselves or make sure someone else was there to feed me. But then, they were of a different generation, one that took their parental responsibilities seriously.
lots of folks eat dinner at 5. over 21 million low income kids rely on school food. if that late "lunch/dinner" at school is all they get for the evening you would begrudge because they were an hour early from your dinner time?
