This thread is stupid. You can't compare African immigrants to native born Black people in America. Why? Usually only upwardly mobile educated Africans who already have money can afford to relocate to the States. Same thing with recent Asian immigrants. Africa is full of third world poverty. All of the Africans starving to death are not moving to the States. Same thing with all the prepubescent Asian slaves who assemble your Nikes and Ralph Lauren shirts. Certain places in Africa make Detroit look like Disneyworld in terms of poverty and violence. All of those 12 year old guerrilla soldiers in Africa aren't moving to the States. Also, there is much more diversity in income and lifestyle within the Black community in America than sheltered White people from overwhelming White areas could possibly imagine.
Minority groups from poor backgrounds who have lived in this country for at least a generation tend to fare much worse than these exceptions of educated and moneyed African and Asian immigrants. Black people in America are the prime example. Whites and Blacks in America are stuck with each other. The history of White flight and deindustrialization of American cities has ravaged a huge percentage of city dwelling Blacks in this country. The neglectful state of many of our big cities is absolutely shameful. Globalization favors slave labor on the other side of the world as the jobs that Black folks used to work decades and years ago are now performed by slave labor in China or illegal immigrants. And White folks with cushy jobs shouldn't pat themselves on the back too much because much of white collar work that requires a college education is a complete joke where people surf the internet all day in air-conditioned offices pretending to work while getting paid a living wage.
Blacks are not the only oppressed native minority class in America. Native Americans are also a downtrodden minority class in this country often confined to reservations where rates of alcoholism and suicide are epidemic. Native-born Latinos also are not snatching up all the jobs like fresh-off-the-border immigrants either. Native-born Latinos residing in big cities from NYC to LA to SF tend to be poorer, have less opportunity and be more involved in crime and gang activity. Although that has changed in the past 20 years because deporting American gang-bangers in Southern California back to civil war-scarred Central America has caused countries like El Salvador and Honduras to become virtually gang-controlled.
And no, not all African and Asian immigrants do well. Africans and Asians from poor war-torn countries like Liberia and Cambodia, respectively, are more ghettoized, have higher poverty rates than Blacks and are more likely to contribute to crime than native born Blacks as a group.
Africans have a different narrative than American Blacks. Racism plays a part, and the history of this nation plays a part. Africans are coming here by choice, and you find educated, hard working Africans coming here.]
American Blacks were historically held down for a long time in the USA via slavery and Jim Crow. Sure, all of those things have ended. However, Black Americans have had some catching up to do. More Blacks have university-level degrees than ever before. More Black Americans are in the middle class than ever before. Much of the worst behavior seen from Black Americans takes place mainly among the poor.
However, with Africans, they are coming here, not with the feeling of being a minority, but of coming from another country, a different culture.
The problem here is the Democrats keep putting forth a narrative that blacks don't need to do any catching up, that society should catch them up. Once they've accepted that notion, and 90% voting for Democrats seems to indicate they have, they won't work to improve their lot. Our nation is absolutely trapped in a cycle as far as minorities go. They drop out of school and have children born to single mothers then blame racism for their lot in life and vote for Democrats who reinforce the idea that racism is keeping them down, then they raise those children to drop out of school and have another generation of children without stable families or education and keep blaming racism for it. You cannot improve someone else's life. People have to have initiative. The bulk of Democrats just can't seem to understand that. They understand that racism is cultural but have some kind of blind spot when it comes to recognizing that valuing education and personal responsiblity are cultural too. I don't believe most liberals do it on purpose but at the same time they refuse to recognize that they are doing it. Until they recognize they're doing it, they won't stop. They'll keep doing things that don't work, keep giving blacks a loaf of bread instead of teaching them how to bake their own bread, and then keep blaming Republican racism for why no permanent change happens.
Culture, lack of victimization mindset and work ethic. Basically the same ingredients most other immigrant groups posess that allow them to realize the American Dream.
Cruelly no they don't care about the America dream you obviously know none. They do they're own thing, usually don't follow politics, stupid America culture, don't follow the crowd to move out of mommy house by 18, don't care for none of the sports garbage they keep their mind on schooling or investing in a business and move on.
The ones who follow that path and focus usually do quite well, American culture is idiot culture designed to make people stupid and slow.

What the frack does culture or politics have to do with the fact that inorder to immigrate to the U.S. you have to possess marketable skills BEFORE you get here???
If Africans were so culturally, spiritually, and historically superior to African Americans then Africa countries would all have the freaking GDP of Korea, or Singapore. But they don't.
In short if you skim off the cream of the crop, and we were on a foreign forum we'd be debating why African Americans are so superior to our lazy, uneducated, imoral native citizens. Geez us christ!

This thread should be titled "Why do African immigrants fare better than ghettoized native-born Black people", because there are hundreds of thousands of middle class suburban dwelling Blacks in safe quiet towns and neighborhoods who have never lived in the ghetto amongst all of the social ills of serious violent crime, disease and addiction. But unlike ghetto Black people in America, the elite Blacks from Africa who have the money and or educational background to relocate to the States aren't born into crime-ridden American ghettos infested with bad schools, liquor stores, guns and literally tons of foreign drugs.
Tell me, how does a broke 17 year old Black kid living in the hood in America get his hands on heroin or cocaine that is grown thousands and thousands of miles away in Latin America? Not one gram of heroin that sells on the streets of American inner cities is home-grown here in the United States. Yet in predominantly Black cities like Baltimore, one out of every thirteen city residents is hooked on South American heroin. How are such drug connections established between broke Black folks, who can't get a full-time job at Wal-Mart let alone have enough busfare or gas money to fill up their hooptie to drive out of state, and drug kingpins thousands of miles away in Latin America? The feds allow tons of cocaine and heroin into the United States every year because illegal drugs are a multi-billion dollar business in this country. It just so happens that the illegal trade of hard drugs like heroin is best suited for the ghetto where many desperate broke folks of all ages have nothing to lose and police scrutiny is much less intense than the suburbs.
Many times, the biggest customers of hard drugs in the inner city are White folks from affluent homes in the suburbs. This really comes as no surprise as heroin is an insanely expensive and demanding habit that many working people can't even afford. Broke heroin addicts living in the ghetto resort to often dangerous elaborate money making schemes, like stripping abandoned homes and buildings of copper wire, to support their expensive habits. But drug addiction comes easiest for privileged people with too much leisure time from moneyed households in the 'burbs. Afterall, White kids from "good homes" statistically have a much higher rates of substance abuse of hard drugs than Black kids. Try not to look like a narc and talk to the average twenty something White kid from the suburbs outside of a big city and most of the time they will proudly tell you that they've done "everything" when it comes to drugs from heroin to crack to meth to LSD.
It just so happens the war on drugs targets Black kids who bite the bait of the idea of riches through participating in the ubiquitous inner city drug game. It is no coincidence that the vast majority of Black-on-Black murders in the American inner city are drug-related. This is the case in some of America's most crime-ridden big cities like Baltimore:
The war on drugs has caused America to become the number one incarcerator in the world. America is only 5% of the world in population, but the U.S. accounts for 25% of the world's prison population. The huge growth of the America prison population since the 70's has been young Black males incarcerated for nonviolent drug offenses. Jailed for selling drugs that aren't even manufactured in this country.

Any intelligent person knows that "stats" are taken from the poorest communities in the cities. The highest black income earners are Black Americans, the top black-owned businesses are owned by Black Americans and the top doctors are Black American too. Like I said before, the top blacks certainly aren't from Trinidad.
BTW, why are Indians living in Trinidad financially and academically superior to the black Trinis? I know it's the same way in Ghana too. Conflict between East Indians and Blacks
Got a link? People from Trinidad, the rest of the carribean and Africa come here and out preform American blacks. LoL, Trinidad has one of if not the highest standard of living and is one of the weathiest in the western hemisphere. Black Americans might want to get their own house in order before they start casting stones. Some of the best and brightest "african americans" are actually from Trinidad/west indies.

Tho racism IS a problem for at least most dark skin "Black" people in the US; why do Blacks from Nigeria, Kenya and so on do so WELL as a group here? Word is they're more successful than even Asians and Jews. Our POTUS Obama is half Kenyan.
Because most African immigrants here are educated professionals.
