The same way the got to work before they became unemployed??? No car, buy a used bicycle, use public transportation.
AGREED!
There has never been more cars on the road and back when I started working in the late fifties; even with far fewer of them, we never had a problem travelling long distances to work through things such as work car pools or even someone living near you who works near your place of employment or goes past a bus stop on their way to work. Put a notice up on the board at your local supermarket to wit - "Needing a ride to-"
That "needing" a car has been a fail before it ever became accepted as a valid excuse.
It exposes the freakin stupidity of Harper and his bunch of brain dead azzhats. Firstly, they are going to show up at your door unannounced!!!! LOL. I guess collecting EI now requires a person to STAY at home. Next, I have zero obligation to open my door to anyone, ANYONE PERIOD. Are they going to come to my house with a search warrant????.
It's just another typical RWNJ attack on the most vulnerable class of persons. Here we have a government who is in bed with every major corporation, giving them untold corporate welfare in the billions upon billions of dollars, a government that is full of the most crocked politicians this side of Washington, a government who has been caught with their hand in the cookie jar repeatedly, a government that deems it necessary to HIDE everything they do from the Canadian people, in short a Government that I'm ashamed of, reflecting nothing but unCanadian values over and over again.
They are done like dinner because of this attack on all of Canada east of Ontario. If they think they will win more than one or two seats in the east come the next election they are more delusional than a GOPer.
Add In all the incentives that some provinces a are offering to pay to send people to trade school and you might get sent up North to work building massive Dam, LNG and mining projects in B.C. or to work all over in Alberta Oil and Gas or Sask Potash and Oil and Gas industry but then again a journeyman trade person with a Red Seal $80K is the average salary and 6 figure salary is common if they get a trade in demand.
I mean get someone on EI a trade and a career in demand and where they earn enough to pay into a higher tax bracket and yet have enough to buy new cars and do home Renovations and go shopping means the retail side picks up except most Canadians go buy big ticket items in the states because a I-pad or a nice stainless steel fridge or stove is 30% less than up here.
Reduce unemployment and get people working and with all the incentives to go take up a skilled trade it is almost a opportunity that is too good to pass up and heck any Americans with a skilled trade and a few years under your belt would get a job and a Workers visa in no time heck there is a reason Alberta nick name is Texberta.
As for not having a Car their is Greyhound and commuter flights to places that are begging people to go work there and then save your money and buy a Car
Ah, yes, all fed employees are slackers.
I keep forgetting that they never produce anything tangible.
You know, that GPS you use and those weapons you buy have nothing to do with government research.
Nothing tangible there.
I saw an exterior bus ad for a BCBS insurance plan for federal employees..."because of all their hard work" or something like that.
You lose a job because you once had one. Presumably, you had a car then.
Never mind................it's not worth explaining.
This story makes me salivate. I love it when government teat suckers get caught. If we did that in America, it would cut welfare/unemployment/disability/entitlement in half or more.
I once worked for a company that would randomly send a company nurse to check on people who called in sick and were on paid sick leave. The nurse would just show up, unannounced. The stupid unions put a stop to it because sick leave is a paid benefit, and they considered it none of the company's business what people did if they were using that earned benefit. I can kinda see that point of view, believe it or not.
How about...you had a job within walking distance of your home, and then your employer went out of business, which made you eligible for unemployment benefits, and then a government worker says you're qualified for Job X which is not accessible by transit and the unemployed worker can't get to that job.
The same way the got to work before they became unemployed??? No car, buy a used bicycle, use public transportation.
They walked to their previous job and a government worker says they're qualified for a new job 20 miles away which has no public transportation available.

Did you miss my earlier post about working in the 50's and 60's requiring you to travel and not having a car. Back then cars were deemed a privilege and not a "given".
You talked to your co-workers and negotiated a ride or you talked to your neighbour and negotiated a ride or you put up a notice on the bulletin boards at the post office, supermarket or coffee shop asking, begging for a ride and guess what? You ened up getting to work if you really wanted to instead of leaning on an excuse like "but I don't have a car".
Here's my thinking in a nutshell; consider yourself damn lucky someone's done the ground work finding you another job and show that appreciation to the rest of us tax-payer's by getting your butt to work until you no longer have to. Capiche?
These are perilous times in the job market and if you have the opportunity to take a job offered; take the damn thing until you can find something better suited to you but don't moan over not having a car to drive to work or having to commute. Sheesh!
There are literally thousands upon thousands of young people out there who would mortgage their first born from a non existent marriage to simply have a job.
No sympathy, no empathy, not even a scintilla of commiseration with your dilemma. Sorry.

The US government is sending Fed workers to Canada to work for them ?
