And don't forget the subsidized premiums.
People should only have to pay 4%-10% of their income in premiums and the government will pay the balance.
This is if they earn 400% above poverty and scales with family size.

This is a lifesaver to those who want to retire early. They don't have to wait til 65 to get medicare.
They can go out early and get subsidized health insurance until they turn 65.

A retired individual can make up to $45K per year and have Uncle Sam pay 60% of their premium if they go into the pool. They pay $350/month and the government pays $520/month.

That's a good deal.

Mircea is right. Many folk do not realize that individual and group policies often cap annual and/or lifetime benefits. Some of these policies have insanely low caps that have no relationship to what it costs for a single uncomplicated trip to the ER, let alone a diagnosis of a life threatening condition. Once you cap, the rest is all out of pocket

Well it seems to depend on which Obama you are talking about whether I am right or not. Your speech clip from 2003 was a bit different than his various positions. Just like all politicians what he says varies upon the audience he is addressing.

He had nothing to stop single payer except his being beholden to his corporate donors. Wake up, he was bought and sold for and is just another ***** politician

With the caps and limits gone what do you think will happen ?
Do health insurance companies have unlimited funds ?

That sounds like partisan hogwash.

Agreed. And Obama did NOTHING to change that scenario. So he did nothing tangible to push for single payer system. He sold out to the same industries the Republicans were selling out to.

Obama said premiums would decrease 3000%.
Certainly not partisan hogwash.

The video is out there with him saying those very words.

More like a case of partisan amnesia ?

Default Help for healthcare

From the President of the Dallas County Medical Society, Dr Richard W. Snyder II,--no he's not a flaming liberal!! Read his whole lettter for a realistic view on what must happen to contain costs AND provide coverage:

Quote:
In healthcare reform, the Rationing R word is so devastatingly toxic, so nuclear that it has tanked many political careers and many attempts at healthcare reform. Hillary Clinton's efforts at healthcare reform in the early '90s initially come to mind. Thunderous echoes of "Death Panels" are still fresh and reverberate across the spectrum of digital media discourse. Perhaps no issue in American politics so polarizes our nation. Yet it is exactly this divide that we must cross if we ever are to have meaningful reform
Quote:
Those who feel that rationing is absent in our country are just kidding themselves. It is an illusion that many so desperately try to protect. Rationing is so commonplace and familiar that we don't recognize it as such.
