Report: 58% of US adults blame violent games for violent behavior | Joystiq

So I guess someone has been listening to elmur fudd over at the NRA. (Its not guns that shoot people, its magazines, novelloas, Dungeon and Dragon, Porn, . . .er I mean Games)

I shouldn't be surprised. These are the same idiots who believe they can make sound and realistic (and unbiased decisions) without any aspect of critical thinking. We are better randomly selecting senators vs. electing them. . but I degrees

So for the idiots out there. . .

IF VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES ARE SUCH A PROBLEM and infecting our youth - why are our youth the only ones getting sick? The United States?

IF VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES ARE SUCH A PROBLEM than our youth homicide rate wouldn't of fallen with the introduction of violent games (when graphics started improving, homicides started falling)

f'n idiots. If games/media made people crazy, than the US per capita rate would be on par with every other media eating country (Japan, Europe, etc).

The study goes on to say that 58% think there is a link, but less than 40% care to do anything about it. . .bad parenting?

Citation? There are reports of psychological problems caused by video games all over the world. Most notably in Korea.

You should have someone who speaks better English proofread your posts for you.

Violent games may not make someone violent but rest assured it provides guidance and strategies for the those few who decide to commit violence.

An at home training course to develop the skills needed to shoot people enmass.

Same argument for gun owners......only a few will stay..... so do you cut off everyone from video games and guns?

People will always find something to blame other than personal responsibility. Plain and simple. And the media is the easiest target, since it's what we all ingest on a daily basis.

Don't agree with this at all.

People all over the world play the same games, watch the same movies/tv and yet they don't have these issues.

In fact, TV overseas is a lot less censored too.

Got nothing to do with guns either.

I believe violent video games does have an effect.

--How much----- varies from person to person.

The problem is the parents, or a lack of parent. That is part of it.

Lets be clear, 58% of people do not BLAME video games (the cause). 58% suggest it is a factor. One of many factors. There are more than a few scientific studies that agree. Even the linked article says that. There are also studies that do not link violence with video games.

So since there are scientific studies that both suggest linkage and others that do not, why is it odd that just over half the population thinks there is SOME connection?

Your thread is a case of misplace outrage.

100's of scientific studies have shown a link between violent media exposure and aggression.
And scientists say there are at least three reasons to believe that violent video games might be even more harmful than violent TV programs and films.

The following source explains more.
The Effects of Violent Video Games on Behavior

Personally I would not want to outlaw violent video games. But I would be for scientists working with video game creators, to decrease chances of violent video games causing (non-honorable) aggressive behavior.

Have a good one,
Chad.
