The U.S. is hardly the worst place to live, compared to areas of Third World countries where people are surviving on $2 a day, and maybe 5 % of the population is literate.

But we do have a government begging for cash to give to the poor... I guess in liberal terms that would be less equal. And he race to illiteracy is in full gallop to the pole.

We also have money to give while in other countries they don't. We live relaxed lives owning 2 cars, large backyards, playing golf weeks at a time, flying first class, eating and drinking the finest foods. Heck, we don't even wash our own clothes. We can afford to support our poor.
The middle class in third world countries cannot spare money for all the poor people they have.
The biggest dumps in the nation are in the bright red states.
Just take a drive through the rootin' tootin' deep south, you would think you are in a 3rd world country.
Actually, the biggest dump would be where you are since they have people like you. Nothing meaningful to contribute other than slanted opinions and attacks based on a slanted belief to those that continually provide facts.
I'd say the list is pretty damned good! List 10 other countries outside of the top 10 ranked in HDI that represent a better quality of life for their citizens as a whole!
I'm glad to see the U.S in the top 10.. it is a great country and for a country of plus 300 millions isn't doing too bad!
But hey, you could always work in a sweat shop in China, or in a call centre in India making 1/15th what you'd make in the U.S. Better yet maybe you'd be happier in the capitalist paradises of Somalia or Saudi Arabia.
I've been to Cambodia, Thailand, Egypt, Morocco, USA, Canada, Spain, Turkey and without a doubt if I wasn't Canadian i'd choose to live in the U.S of A... feel free to live in the slums of Phnomh Penh or Cairo and get back to CD forum in one year complaining about the Socialist nightmares of the world.
This isn't to say the U.S is without problems but i'd say it is on a much more solid foundation than most and I have faith that it will continue to be one of the best places to live on earth!

And yea, the US is a socialist country, and has been since 1989. 1989 became the first year the federal government budgeted more for social programs than any of their constitutional responsibilities. Today, Social Security consumes 34% of the federal budget, and MediCare/MedicAid consumes 23% of the federal budget. So the US is without a doubt a socialist nation, and that is indeed a serious problem.

Depends on how much you make. It is better to be poor in any other OECD country, but it is better to be Rich/wealthy in the USA.
You also have to take into account that the U.S is a massive country in terms of population. I've noticed that none of the countries in the top 30 come close to having 300 million people. Besides, the U.S is a great place if you aren't lazy and want to make something of your life. I would sure as heck rather live in U.S.A than Turkey - i've been to Turkey and there is no way that the average person's standard of life in Turkey is even close to the average person in the U.S..
why do people automatically blame a government for a country's poor stats? This all gets so nauseating. Instead of blaming republicans or democrats, blame yourself.
