In the 70's I was introduced to John Jameson at a decidedly pro-IRA/anti-Provo drinking establishment in Hell's Kitchen by a very comely red headed uber radical Republican (the Irish definition) who introduced me to Bernadette nee Devlin McAllskey, Irish Whiskey, and a decidedly Marxist primer on The Troubles and while the relationship was short lived it left me with an undying love for the Wolf Tones and the Chieftans - I pass on River Dance.

Sláinte chuig na fir, agus go mairfidh na mná go deo!

Which come to think of it sounds pretty Yiddish to me.

I never heard of Irish history month until I read this thread. I guess because St. Patrick's day falls on March.

The Irish have unfinished business, a part of their island is still occupied.

Gaelic is such an interesting language and you are right, it does seem like Yiddish to me as well.

I mean how do you get "Dublin" from "Baile Átha Cliath"?

God Bless me.

We need some of that attitude these days. Seems like working class whites are now so juiced up on Rush Limbaugh that they cannot wait to help the big dogs ( oh sorry, "job creators") destroy unions and decent public sector jobs. It is like they think Wall Mart is all about the working man. The Irish could smell that horse shyte a mile a way.

"White culture"?

This is an Irish thread.

I know many of us look alike but there's Irish, German, Swedish, Northern Italian.......cultures made up of lighter skinned people.

Years ago I had an elderly (born in the early 1900s) Italian American NY'er tell me:

The Italians built the cities

The Jews own the cities

The Irish run the cities

Question March is Irish-American History Month!

Does this mean there'll be a discount on Jameson, Bushmills, and Guiness?
