Should America be more like Scandinavia? How would it look like if we were?

What do you think?

* 5 - 6 weeks paid vacation for all workers
* Very long paid maternity/parental leave (18 months in Sweden)
* Less working hours
* Small gap between rich and poor
* Very low poverty
* Free national health care
* Free school/college
* High GDP per capita & low unemployment rate

Etc.

I have some relatives in Norway (big Chechen community there), and I've been there plenty of times. I don't like it. They have a high standard of living, but it's just not for me. Beautiful countryside though (and women).

I like Sweden, but I don't think the USA could become like Sweden. Our oil isn't nationalized. I have a friend that lives in Sweden right now. She doesn't like it. The taxes are so high that she would make less money if she made more money. I'm not sure on the details, but she is trying to convince her husband to move to Canada. I told her to go to school in the states, but she choose Sweden instead.

Yes, they have done wonders for their finances by taking the position that they are going to drill, drill, drill. They are really big on off-shore drilling.

Maybe we should take up the idea of making people support the church with their taxes also.
