Why on earth would CA not want to be a part of the union? They all have green cards don't they? Anyways, if they should leave I hope they are sure to take Frisco with them. We could somehow throw in NYC as a bonus. Sorta like retro sodam & gommorah. Then let God deal with it. Where do we vote?

I realize it federally cannot happen. However hypothetically, if California were able, would it be better off as its own country?

Evidently it cant put out its own fires without federal help!

secession is necessary
For the good of California and the rest of the world, for all the previously stated reasons that i dont need to reiterate. However...as much as the US is ridiculous and California identifies little with the rest of the country...California itself adds to the "dumb American" reality in its own ways, and California would defenetly need ALOT of reform and change. The good thing is California is generally more enlightened and wordly than the rest of the US...but this isnt saying much. California needs to seriously alter its education system, first and foremost. I think a positive thing about the average California mind is that there is a willingness to learn and understand at a level the rest of the world is, even if they are not quite grasping deeper meaning. I am really not trying to be fecicious, but the bottom line is that California is and has been apart of the US and is somewhat still influenced by the isolationism. Outside of the foreign understanding/relations concept California and its citizens are very progressive in many ways. Being hyper concerned and active about environmental issues ( i am by no means a hippie, but the bottom line is the countries with the highest standard of living in the world, and the best functioning governments put huge emphasis on environmental issues..i.e. The Netherlands, France, Switzerland, Luxembourg, and all of Scandinavia and nordic countries), willingness to accept social programs and ideas ( for sh!#$ sake lets get universal healthcare already and stop putting people on the streets and killing people off), and social progression. I think California is full of potential, it is already a beautiful state with a lot to offer, unfortunatley it is attached to and apart of a country that, yes, holds it back and will keep dragging it down until it ultimately collapses completely. California has what it takes and I hope its citizens know what is best for it.

cali is awesome , but the liberals there are really screwing it up. If it did secede then that would loosen up restrictions on lots of things for the rest of us. Some of the rules they have for strictly political.

So you're saying the conservative red necks of middle America are not bringing down America? Umm...who is ruining this country? Yep, that's right, the Bush Administration. And who got him into office...twice? Middle America. So, please, don't even try to bring your bull**** about liberals ruining the country into these forums. You either have no clue what you are talking about or are one the conservative red necks in middle America that is still part of only the 25% of Americans who still like Bush.
