I noticed several claims that California imports water from other states. This is not true even if the idea has been studied [piping water in from Oregon/Washington]. California gets its water from within the state, primarily from the Sierra mountains. The Colorado river separates California from Arizona and several other states also take water from the Colorado River. There have been disputes and federal involvement but California has a bigger population than Arizona & Nevada & needs a larger share of the water.

Certainly there are many in California who view the rest of the nation with less than enthusiasm esp the South. Bush has turned off so many Americans that even his home state, Texas, get a bad rap.

Yes, we do feel that much of the US is too repressive and that California suffers from the association. But so long as Democrats are in the White House & control Congress than California is basically happy.

You don't "need" more water, you CHOOSE to live. Californians can move somewhere else (which many are!) if they don't like it. Also about 40 to 45 % of your state is republican so don't think that everyone in the state is happy. california should secede from America, and keep all it's smut there while it is at it!

What exactly do you mean by "smut"? Do you mean our very strong and large economy that America could not survive without? The Port of LA and Port of Long Beach which are the largest port in the country when combined? The city of San Francisco which so many on this board seem adore? The farming that America needs? The wine you all drink? The movie stars that our society is so concerned about? Is there any other "smut" that we have here?

Link? I'm pretty sure that nothing in the constitution prohibits any state from seceeding. I moved out of California last year because it's so far left that I didn't even feel like I was in America. I would have no problem if they left.

Well we have the largest port here in Houston combined with Texas City, we have all the farming we need in the midwest, wonderful wines coming out of the finger lakes region in upstate NY. Yes the US could survive even better without California. The smut is all that crap coming out of Hollywood and porn out of the valley. The only reason why anyone thinks about celebs out there is because the media puts them everywhere so alot of people can't miss it. Me, I choose to read to keep my mind open and my soul clean!

"the valley has the largest single concentration of fruit and nut farms and vineyards in the United States; cotton, grain, and vegetables are also grown."

"Fresno and Tulare counties are the two leading U.S. agricultural counties."

From Central Valley – FREE Central Valley Information | Encyclopedia.com: Facts, Pictures, Information!

"1st busiest containerport in the U.S.
10th busiest containerport in the world
5th busiest container complex in the world when
combined with the neighboring Port of Long Beach"

From The Port of Los Angeles | About the Port

"The Port of Los Angeles is the busiest port in the United States."

"The Port is the busiest port in the United States by container volume, the 8th busiest container port in the world and the 5th busiest internationally when combined with the neighboring Port of Long Beach. The top trading partners in 2004 were
  1. China ($68.8 billion)
  2. Japan ($24.1 billion)
  3. Taiwan ($10.8 billion)
  4. Thailand ($6.7 billion)
  5. South Korea ($5.6 billion)
The most imported types of goods were, in order: furniture; apparel; toys and sporting goods; vehicle and vehicle parts; and electronic products."

From Port of Los Angeles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Napa County, once the producer of many different crops, is known today for its wine industry, rising in the 1960s to the first rank of wine regions with France and Italy."

"Napa Valley is widely considered one of the top AVAs in California, and all of the United States with a history dating back to the early nineteenth century. By the end of the nineteenth century there were more than one hundred and forty wineries in the area. Of those original wineries several still exist in the valley today including Charles Krug Winery, Shramsburg, Chateau Montelena and Beringer. Viticulture in Napa suffered a setback when prohibition was enacted across the country in 1920. Furthering the damage was an infestation of the phylloxera root louse which killed many of the vines through the valley. These two events caused many wineries to shut down and stalled the growth of the wine industry in Napa County for years. Following the Second World War, the wine industry in Napa began to thrive again."

"Today Napa Valley features more than three hundred wineries and grows many different grape varieties including Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel, and other popular varietals."

From Napa County, California - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"California accounts for nearly 90 percent of entire American wine production. The production in California alone is one third larger than that of Australia; if California were a separate country, it would be the world's fourth-largest wine producer."

Uh, none of this really matters because none of those things are unique to California. Wine is also a luxery, not a neccesity by the way. You never addressed my comment on the smut in California! Also your port link says conflicting things, in terms of amout of shipping in tonnage, Houston/ Texas City is the biggest port. Some measurements have LA/LB and some have Houston/TC. None of that really matters because i think that Texas and Cal both could secede seperately from the US and do just fine and well as the remaining US doing just fine too.

Thanks for your generosity. Without water much of the food on your table wouldn't be there since it is grown in California [even more cotton than Texas]. California's climate routinely goes thru cycles of dry years followed by wet but the need is greater than what the state can provide unless it pulls water out of the Colorado River. Both Arizona & Nevada have even worst rainfall totals & would dry up without the Colorado River.

btw the last time political party affiliation was released Republicans were less than 35% in California and shrinking by the day. Unlike Texas, Bush is viewed with serious misgivings and outright contempt in California. He rarely visits the state unless flying in secretly to talk to Republicans behind closed doors. Sorry, bud but you are dead wrong about Republican strength in California. Both chambers of the state house are Democrat and it has been that way for decades! Occasional Republican governors learn quickly to water down any typical Republicans notions if they want to get anything done [or like Schwarzenegger become Democrat in everything but name.

Republicans make up less than 35% of California’s congress people & senators in DC. Our senators are 2 liberal women from San Francisco who have been there also for a very long time &, of-course the speaker of the house is another liberal Democratic woman from San Francisco.

Blue as the beautiful skies overhead, California is solidly progressive & years ahead of the nation as a rule.

"Smut"? Adult movies are made in California but how did you know that? Unless, by chance, you take a peek on occasion

Personally I'd be glad to see it go, see ya.
Cali stopped being American way before they elected the Governator.

The reality is it couldn't support itself & its economy is a direct result of being a part of the US. But I still wouldn't mind if it drifted away.

Now theres a good one. All I buy from Cali is pistachios, I'd gladly give them up.

You can use it to export pistachios, lettuce & wine. As long as you can keep producing them without federal subsidization.

So, We adore alot of places unworthy of being America.

The farming that America needs?
We will get along fine.

I dont drink much & I reckon we could still buy your wine.

How about the violent gangs, meth labs, drug addicts, illegal immigrants & generally elitist attitude. I remember not long ago how your fine upstanding citizenry took to the streets on a murderous rampage of destruction because they did not like a court decision. Nice place, but you can keep it. If I could I'd give it a push off into the Pacific for you.
