Has anyone considered that California's economy wouldn't be what it is without being part of the USA?

What a nonsense thread this is. I'm annoyed to see it, especially at a time when there are so many more serious issues at hand.

Do you really think this a question on Californian's minds right now?

At some point in time, not only will California separate itself from the USA, there will be other states that will do exactly the same thing. When that will be, probably some time in the distant future. As long as the USA continues on its destructive path putting its citizens in harms ways in a very volitile world. A country that is so divided by culture and politics I don't see how it will always be able to call itself the United States. I can definitely see California and others leaving the USA by the beginning of the next century, so not in our lifetimes.

Actually this is an extremely timely and relevant topic that should be on Californian's minds right now.

If we didn't have so many troops and national guards over in Iraq fighting Bush's illegal war there would be more people that would have been able to help fight a real problem (i.e. the fires) as opposed to a problem which exists only in Bush's mind (i.e. Iraq). With more people to fight the fires there would be less destruction and fewer homes lost.

Furthermore if all of California's tax money wasn't being flushed down the toilet in Iraq we would have more money to hire more fire fighters, build more fire stations, and install more fire hydrants.

It's definitely possible and should be done. We are too blue to be dragged down by idiot reds. We would then have enough money to build a wall along the Mex. border since ours isn't that big.

About the water thing-You would need to trade with us in order to get all your valuable goods that come through the Bay Area and Long Beach. Also, the Cental Valley provides tons of food for the entire US.

Also we have enough military bases across the state and several soldiers so we could use them as our army

Well I think California gets the shaft, our dollars goto the other states. Wisconsin gets about 2-1 return on every tax dollar, while Cali gets .8-1 return.

Our culture is constantly attacked by the other states, people wishing that we burn or crack off into the ocean.

I think this is the perfect time to talk about seceding.

All joking aside: if Calif were to secede; Arizona and Nevada would probably join them along with southern Utah (St George area).

I realize it federally cannot happen. However hypothetically, if California were able, would it be better off as its own country?

unfortunately you sighted Wikipedia, a flawed encyclopedia. I'm listed in their encyclopedia, and I cant for the life of me get them to correct mistakes posted, even though I'm the topic of discussion.. Go figure.

I doubt California pays for most of the water it gets from the Colorado river and other projects. Simply put, I'm not convinced California would survive without the rest of the US. This isn't to bash California but talking about the independence of an individual state is somewhat foolhardy.

California is a great state with some serious issues. I was born there and spent the first three years of my life there and still remember some things, such as San Bernadino and Disneyland. But it is very crowded, crime-ridden, and unaffordable. It is reaching the limits of growth with environmental consequences, particularly in terms of water supply. It is also not exactly representative of the US anymore because of the large number of illegal aliens and immigrants there.

Default Secede

Its an interesting idea for other areas of the U.S. to consider also. My preference would be for some of the southern states to declare their independence(especially Texas) so they could not send another idiot like Bush to Washington. From what I have read about U.S. history, the southern states had a perfect right to leave the Union. Whether or not history will repeat itself is anyone's guess. California doesn't have to secede I think its already a new nation called "Mexicalifornia".
