I'm one for seceding. Quebec has been working on that in Canada for decades.

I am not very political, however, California does seem to be at the top of the heap. I saw that silly list of what came out of California, but what about HP, Google and Yahoo!? Silicon Valley is called that for a good reason.

We have every terrain here -- valleys, ocean, mountains, snow, deserts, redwoods, tropics, rain forests. With desalination plants, we could survive.

Of course, I think I'd prefer that the South just went and made its own country -- they seem to hate being part of the United States. I think if the South were its own country, we'd be better off. The more educated and affluent people would be left in the other states, the South could be the Confederate again, and elect its own kinds of people. The rest of the country, including the hated California, would surpass the world in computers, inventions, agriculture, and tourism. We would be willing to continue to have educated scientists and other professionals live here without being considered a terrorist.

And we already have a European governor who understands both sides of the ocean and immigration. Either we could secede or the South could secede -- or both of us. We could be the "Sort-of-United States."

Still, my vote goes to the South leaving -- they seem to have great disdain for any other United States citizens moving there (especially "Yankees") and that would solve that problem because they could keep out those snooty educated folks who want to transport some of their culture to the south. They already have their own flag -- the Confederate flag. They could vote a president like Bush again. Only, if they decide to start war on some other country, like Iran, we don't help them at all! Let it be their war. And since they love it so much and their culture, and don't want our help or presence, I say Go Southerners -- God loves the confederacy and since there are so many churches in the Bible Belt, God will just buckle it up and give them all grace. How could they lose with God on their side?

And then California can either secede on its own or join up with other progressive states, immigrants might be thrilled to know they are part of an emerging new nation, and we'll have lakes, rivers, reservoirs and the ocean for water. I think California, aside from all the Californian jokes, has a lot more going for it than most states. It might be an interesting turn of events to see it become a country.

Bush is too stupid to realize that the reason the world hates the US and the reason terrorists want to blow up the US is because the US government has a history of doing stupid things like the war in Iraq. If we didn't do things like destroy Iraq terrorists would not be after us. Why should the hard earned money of the blue states go to pay for the stupid decisions of the idiot leaders elected by the red states?

Imagine how much better we could make the schools, infrastructure, environment, economy and other things in California if we invested all of the tax money the Federal government steals from us to blow up Iraq and instead invested that money in making California a better place.

California should not sit back and watch the rest of the country drag us down with them. We Californians should rise up, demand our independence, and create a much better California.
Well, us NoCal folks don't want to stay with SoCal, so it would have to be a compound process. Actually, I think Texas may want to split too.

But...united we stand, divided we fall.

California should defenitely succeed. However, we need to take Alaska, part of British Columbia, Oregon, Washington, and Baja. That would be a great country.

well considering the fact that we support ever other little territory that wants to break away from their mother country... but I'm sure if it happened here the armed forces would be sent in to make sure it doesn't happen.. oh wait.. they're busy in iraq...

[califantastic;1822400]If we didn't have so many troops and national guards over in Iraq fighting Bush's illegal war there would be more people that would have been able to help fight a real problem (i.e. the fires) as opposed to a problem which exists only in Bush's mind (i.e. Iraq).
Might want check out your sources re not enough manpower available, military-wise.

Default A New Country?

I lived in SoCal briefly about 20 years ago and I always thought there was something different about the state than the rest of the U.S. The only problem that I see in breaking away from the "mother ship" is with the military.
Yes, the Terminator will always be there to protect you guys but really, I don't see the average California guy taking time away from his parties to fight a war. It may be better to just stay with the "mother ship" and continue to let the Southern boys fight all of the wars! I'm only joking California!!

Good point, but that is why some California firms are working with DoD in the development of small robot soldiers. Californians could stay at home at fight wars using joysticks.

But the thread is obviously silly, and I think putting out the fires is really our current focus.

Hey, if you guys offer free healthcare and other stuff, me, my wife, my kids, my grandma, grandpa, aunts, uncles and cousins are gonna say "California here I come!!".

You will have an open border/santuary city policy for all immigrants won't you?

Oh, and do something about mandating affordable housing. Marin would be nice. Not too big but 3 bd, 2 ba and a view please.

If you want to move to California, that depends on California's immigration policy if they have any at all. Californians have welcomed outsiders--maybe because it's more people to take advantage of and we're seeing the consequences of that now.
