I guess until they start marching by the hundreds or thousands, shaking their fists and jumping up and down like a bunch of savages and shouting colorful yet violent threats of death and beheadings, they can turn down all of the parties and have all the campfires they want and it won't bother me.
HP will remain on the bookshelves. At least in the US anyways.
I keep hearing about so called "religious" people wetting their pants over the HP series.
I have to admit, I know many Baptists, Presbys and Catholics and the like and none of them said a peep about HP.
My evangelical friend's kids read the books as well as my son.
Where are all of these outraged people? Are there many? Do they really exist?
There have been threads about it on the religion forum. You can search over there and hear from some outraged people.
I personally know of one family who doesn't let their kids read the books or see the movies.
But I think most of the outrage was early on in the series and came from people who had not read the books. It's hard to believe that anyone who has read them would find them objectionable.
I myself am a student. I have read all of the Harry Potter books. Although these novels are classified as "fantasy", it does not mean they are evil. The witchcraft used by Harry Potter and his friends is not evil. They use their "powers" towards good. If people who are so against these books took the time to actually read them, they would realize that the novels are all about good prevailing over evil. In the end, good does completely win. This isn't just some way for Rowling to turn all of youth into witches and satanists. People need to see Harry Potter for what it really is: the series that is getting our youth to stop playing video games and read. Instead of trying to take away the magic of reading for all children, parents need to just set the rules for their own kids and not try to rule society. Don't press your beliefs on others. I starting reading the Harry Potter series when I was in elementary school and I have never gotten into witchcraft or satanism because of them.
Swirling controversy has long surrounded Harry Potter books and parents who question the hidden messages in the famous books.
But the debate is over. The science is in, and there is a consensus that reading Harry Potter can in fact cause harm to children:
Fire-fighters free Harry Potter fan, 3, from traffic cone 'wizard hat'! (broken link)!
lol I feel sorry for your children...sigh it's parents like you that make kids go crazy when they go off to college because they have been so sheltered and held back from the world that when they finally go out on their own...they go crazy and get drunk all the time and try drugs and get knocked up or get a girl knocked up. I'm in college I see it every semester!
harry potter made black magic cute. he did a disneyland number on something evil.
black magic didn't work very well for harry either, he got stabbed to death in london not too long ago. just so that we are all on the same page about black magic, its about making somebody sick crazy or dead by messing with them and getting their property, money wife and so forth. its the art of messing with people to their detriment and your benefit.
