China will have the biggest economy by 2030. Could be as soon as 2016.
They're obviously doing something right.

AIG(the company we bailed out) just sold 80% of its aircraft leasing company(ILFC) to them not too long ago too.

You are way off. China is producing many things no worse then any western country. Their army is much better then you estimate and is tiny, relative to their population. Among their true assets is a fearless leadership who know what they want. They are ruthless and don't depend on next day poll, or next month elections. The Chinese population is tough and can endure much more then us. A day without power puts America pretty much out of business. Another Chinese advantage is their willing to learn from everyone. They absorb everything, do not consider themselves "the best" and everyone else can kiss their ass...
In our stupidity, we also transferred our most valuable technologies to China. Companies like Boeing put the foundation to their passenger aircraft industry. And they are in space as well. Just give them 10 years and you'll see.

Yes, the Chinese don't suffer from the same degree of hubris that we do. They observe, learn, and work damn hard. I am not saying I care for all dimensions of their culture, for sure, but they are cleaning our clock economically, and military might will certainly follow. Let's hope to goodness, neither China nor the West decide to go down the crazy warmonger route. That would be horrible all around. My advice. Don't fvck with China, or underestimate its people.

Our ideological perspective that if we cut taxes on the rich, they will do all our investing for the future, and all public sector investment is somehow not real, seems rather foolish and naive in comparison.

It is a humbling time, to be getting azzes handed to us by some good old commies...hopefully it will be a time of reflection and recalibration of our stale old ways of thinking.
China doesn't subsidize the lazy and stupid that are able bodied with welfare and section 8.

China also doesn't reward idiots with more foodstamps for pumping out babies when they can't afford it.

Deal with these issues and the US would be far more productive.

good thread - China is proof that Socialism can work, very well in fact!

People who call Obama a Marxist etc.. are just ignorant.

They probably don't even know what the word means.
