when posters use the word equality they mean different things.
racial equality economic equality, sexual orientation equality age equality employment equality.
many many agendas.
Just because you support it doesn't mean "a better country for all". There are many people that oppose it. That doesn't make them or you right or wrong. Its a matter of opinion. We all have one.
That is why marriage, abortion, drugs...should be removed from the federal level. Leave it to the States. Shoving a federal law down somebody's throat is going to **** somebody off. Again, we don't all share the same opinion. We are allowed to have our own opinion.
Placing it at the State level gives us the choice to choose. Don't like a certain state's laws? Don't live there. Move to one with laws you do support.
I honestly think that states may await the outcome of the upcoming supreme court case. I'm hoping for just a blanket "every state must recognize and perform same-sex marriage" so we can be done with it.
Same-sex marriage is not about state laws. It's about the fact that some of our fellow Americans are being very wrongly denied their basic rights guaranteed to them just by them being American citizens. It's unconstitutional and wrong. So you don't have to personally agree with it (that's fine), but it should still be legal everywhere in the USA. Thus, I'm really hoping the Supreme Court issues a blanket statement legalizing it everywhere. Firstly, just because it's the right thing to do, and secondly because then we could just put it behind us on the political front.
Plus, I mean it really is only a matter of time before it would be legal everywhere anyways. The majority of Americans support same-sex marriage. This is especially true of the younger generations (my generation) as well. In the future, people will look back and wonder why (some) people today made such a big deal out of it.

Win win for everyone.
Why should citizens of a state be allowed to vote on which rights that other citizens are entitled to? It's not so easy for everyone to just pick up and move to an equality state. There are family ties, career moves, university moves, health issues and lack of $$ to make such a move for some people. Why should ANY citizen of this country be forced to be play the game of equality hopscotch just to be entitled with the privileges of being an american? There have been plenty of noted cases where couples that were married legally in some states and then cannot get divorced when they move to another state that won't recognize their union, also cases involving mutual child custody in others that don't recognize them as families. It's much too simplistic to say to "leave it to the states" when you're talking about human lives.
Because none is not an option. There will be a next and more after and eventually all 50.
