Shouldn't there be consequences similar to lying under oath, if a Presidential candidate makes all these claims that ultimately get him elected, but never follows through and does the opposite of what he promised to the American people?

For example, Obama promised the American public that he was going to cut deficit spending in half, but instead of even attempting to do this, he instead did completely the opposite and tripled the national debt. Why isn't there a consequence for these outrageous lies? If the President is never held accountable for blatantly lying to the American public just to sway voter confidence, then it's just going to keep happening! This is an outrage!

We would need to require every presidential candidate to swear under oath before beginning their campaign.

Excellent idea!! They should do it. In the meantime there should still be consequences for their lies!

You would think, but the people have had years of being conditioned to it.

So rather than demand action on those who do such, they simply "shrug" and state "politicians lie" as if such excused the occurrence.

Who is more to blame? The one who lies or the one who accepts the lie?

Sorry, but when the public sees lying as acceptable, it is only natural that its elected officials will lie without concern.

Your example proves why the idea is a stupid one.

Failing to achieve a campaign promise is not a lie.

There's impeachment, or even easier, elections.

We just had the election. Guess that didn't turn out so well for you.

Impeachment? Dream on.

The budget deficit would be a lot lower today if the GOP didn't obstruct at every turn, manufacture crises, and actually compromised.

Obama doesn't have control over what the GOP decides to do politically.

We just had an election and the fact the lying retard called Obama was elected only proved why it should be so vital for them to not allow to blatantly lie to the public and go back on all their promises.

This has nothing to do with the GOP or the Democrats. It has to do with the fact the President said one thing, and did the opposite, regardless of what "political party" he calls himself.
