Let me re-phrase, if you are a desk jockey, and you are an E-7 or 0-4 and above, you get a bronze star for being over there.....period, unless you screwed up big time.

The Bronze Star can be given for any exceptional service. The Bronze Star with a "V" for valor is given for combat. I don't disagree that Bronze Stars have been over awarded, and that the new drone driver medal is completely wrong.

Staring at a screen 17,000 miles away from enemy fire does not IMHO constitute a Heroic Act. Even if the person doing the staring is directing the killing of the enemy he is not being shot at or dodging shrapnel.

The only reason for the creation of this medal is to award what is effectively a Combat Badge to people that are not seeing combat. The combat badge is a requirement for promotion into the Pentagon hierarchy and this is a way to award that status to the World of War gamesters.

IMHO it is a BS Award.

Agreed.

My oldest son, who is in college but has joined the Marine Corps, showed me that article last night with much disgust.
