This clearly illustrates what is very broken in American politics.

In Canada as you well know we have a complete universal healthcare system. At the time the change occured from a for profit system, very much like the USA's system to a nonprofit universal healthcare "service" it was done by a law called, "The Canada health act" Now, we are talking about a complete overhaul of the entire system from top to bottom.

The Canada healthact is 23 pages in length. That's it in it's entirety.

Making everyone eligible for Medicare would be a lot shorter of a bill and a better result, but money and influence trump common sense in the US political system.

Making sure more Americans have access to healthcare is a bad thing? That is a messed up point of view.

The reason it's that big is two fold, firstly you have the the six gazillion special interests making sure to get a few pages in there to carve out a slice of the pie for themselves but that is not the biggest reason. The court system is broken. All those lawyers have to keep themsleves busy wriing this garbage so they can keep themselves and their buddies busy arguing it in the courts for the next decade.

Don't be a tool. You know damn well it wasn't designed for that. That wasn't the goal. The goal is more power through thousands of rules and regs.

Ah yes, this has nothing to do with providing healthcare to more Americans.
