Sometimes your enemy is simply superior despite your billion dollar firepower. They were superior and more determined....by a long shot.

Why do you guys find it so hard to give the NVA and Vietcong their props? They kicked our asses, fair and square.

Hey, it beez dat way sometimes. Can't win 'em all. There are some people that just won't be pushed around.

LBJ became aware, yes, but what exactly was he supposed to do? He can't stop Nixon's surrogates from making back channel negotiations in a surreptitious fashion.

Now you're just being silly.
No, he could have exposed Nixon and certainly ruined his political career and possibly even brought him up on treason charges. Either way, it would have ended South Korean hopes for a better deal later.

Oh, wait ... they don't need to worry about stuff like that. Just lie long enough and loudly enough, and everyone will believe they're sincere in whatever position they hold today, as opposed to yesterday.
Which applies equally to the Democrats who suddenly stopped most of their protesting when Obama got elected. I've even read articles on leftist sites wondering why there wasn't more outcry from the left over Obama protesting much of Bush's policy and then continuing it once he got in office. So you don't have a leg to stand on there unless you're going to apply it to both sides.
