I'm trying to understand the double standard. Neo Progs detest cigarettes (rightfully so) but think pot smoking is the coolest, trendiest, hippest thing ever. They're both carcinogens, stink like crazy and are terrible for your body, yet leftists are staunch advocates for recreational pot everywhere and staunch advocates against cigarettes everywhere. So please, help me understand the disconnect. Thanks
It's not a question of cool. That isn't it.
The problem is your misinformation:
They're both carcinogens, stink like crazy and are terrible for your body.
The stink part is subjective, the others just you repeating what you've heard. Most of what you have heard about marijuana is propaganda.

The disconnect is yours, you don't understand the science of either apparently.
Cigarettes are hugely carcinogenic containing dozens of nasty additives designed for higher addiction rates. Cig smokers lose about 7 years of their lives on average.
Cannabis has NOT been linked one iota with cancer. Heavy cannabis smokers without discipline can get things like emphesema but it is easily avoided with exercise and common sense. And Amazon.com is loaded with serious, medical/scientific books which talk of one medical benefit after another. Managing blood sugar, shrinking tumors, helping the liver process alcohol, etc. etc.
If you really want to know (though I don't think you do), buy a book or use a search engine. And if pot caused cancer, where are the cases? Americans have been smoking plenty for 50 years, there should be hundreds of thousands of cases by now. There aren't (unless the user was a tobacco smoker too).
Weed is not replacing a cigarette as another type of smoke- weed is helpful to the body in many areas. Rather have given my grandson some weed - than the terrible retalin that ruined his kidneys for his seizures. Get it ? Better weed than alcohol that eats your liver n can make you violent .
No, I don't get it. You've created a red herring and false narrative and then argued against it. Please stay on topic. Why is smoking cigarettes bad, but smoking pot good? They're both carcinogenic, both stink like crazy and both are terrible for your body. Yet Neo Progs everywhere are advocating for recreational pot smoking and at the same time advocating against cigs.
I saw a headline on CNN the other day (it was on in the gym, I would never intentionally watch it) and it was decrying Jeff Sessions stance on pot and how it would hurt the multi-billion dollar Pot Industry, but CNN would never, ever take a stand in support of the cigarette industry, and in fact are always against it (rightfully so), yet both pot smoking and cigarette smoking are carcinogenic. So CNN is anti Big Tobacco, but pro Big Pot. I don't understand the hypocrisy.
Um, how about responding to the several people who have provided thoughtful comments?
As nearly as I can see, you've asked a question, but have no interest in the answers you've gotten. You might as well write your question in chalk on a wall somewhere.

Pot isn't a carcinogen and isn't terrible for your body. Try again. I'm no weed apologist but comparing cigarettes to pot just because people smoke them both is a false equivalency.

Madam, it has been in use, daily, for over 50 years by millions of people (your truly included). If it were carcinogenic we would have hospitals full of marijuana-induced cancer patients already.
You are relying on faulty information. The fact is there is not even one documented case of cancer being caused by using marijuana.
No disconnect here. I feel about tobacco (and alcohol) exactly the same way I feel about marijuana.
They should be legal for adults to use as long as no one else is harmed, and they should be taxed in order to ameliorate whatever negative effects they have on society at large. Almost all of us like to alter our consciousness at least a little bit, or caffeine-containing beverages wouldn't be so popular.
Tobacco, alcohol, marijuana are mildly psychoactive and have a VERY long history of human use. Of the three, marijuana has the least health and social consequences, but it's the only one that is a Schedule I drug. This makes absolutely no objective sense.
A lot of the social consequences we ascribe to marijuana use are a consequence of the war on drugs, and not the marijuana itself. For instance, it's quite possible to distribute marijuana w/out the cartel middlemen. And I LIKE the idea of a world w/out those *******s.
Smoking cigarettes is carcinogenic. Smoking pot is carcinogenic. Cigarette smoke reeks. Pot smoke reeks. Injesting cigarette smoke into your body is terrible for it. Injesting pot smoke into your body is terrible for it. The left decries cigarette smoke almost universally (rightfully so, its disgusting) but loudly celebrating and advocating for the legalization of recreational pot smoking almost universally. Why would more harmful intoxicants being made legal be a good thing, especially when you (not you specifically) are so adamantly opposed to a similar legal intoxicant?

Why do you want to throw people in a cage for smoking a plant?
Because cigarettes are made out of rat poison, arsenic, tar, butane, lead, etc. Marijuana is just a plant that grows from the earth. Major difference. It does not take rocket science to figure out the answer to that. Also it's not just liberals who support weed.
