anytime weight is mentioned in a post, that is what happens.
dont take everything personally? especially when people stick up for the stereotypes regularly like yourself? you look at an overweight person, and automatically conclude that they are overweight for one reason, they ate their way there. and that is not necessarily the case. some people have high metabolisms, when they are younger, and that high metabolism can go away, and what happens is that the people then start to gain weight, even though they have a normal healthy diet.
and that happens far more than you might think. and then there are the people that have medical issues that cause weight gain, again it happens far more than you might think.
so when you stop seeing with prejudice, and start seeing the people instead, you might start changing your mind.
People are overweight for all kinds of reasons. It's funny. When I was painfully thin I could eat anything I wanted (and did. I don't think vegetables were even in my diet) and never exercised and no one said boo because I was skinny. Now that I'm overweigh I have to watch everything I eat and make sure I exercise and people feel the need to comment and tell me that I'm fat because I overeat and don't exercise.
I'm happy to say that a recent medication change has helped me start losing a bit. It's slow but it's nice seeing the scale numbers go down. I gained most of my weight before they diagnosed me as hypothyroid (went through two pregnancies before they figured this one out) and the weight led to type II diabetes. I also take steroids for hip and knee pain from an accident years ago and they cause weight gain. Add to this a high stress lifestyle. Stress impacts weight gain/loss. I wish it was a matter of choice like so many think it is. Once I had kids I found it very difficult to take care of myself and that added to the weight gain. Now that they're older I'm better able to take care of me and I'm working on it. I wish I could pitch the steroids though. No matter how much I watch it I gain 5 pounds every time I have to go on them. I really don't eat any more when I'm on them yet I gain every time. My doctor says that's normal. We try to use them only when it's absolutely necessary. Sometimes I just can't get the swelling to go down without them. Swelling leads to more damage and more pain. I refuse to pop pain killers. I've seen too many people get addicted to them and the pain is my body's way of telling me I'm doing more damage.
They need to raise the fines, sometimes when there is limited parking I am tempted to park in a handicap spot and leave a check written out to the city for the amount of the fine and court costs on the windshield.
Yes my mom is quite elderly, had a couple falls, the last one was almost deadly. She can barely walk and uses a roller walker, while I hold on to her with a gait belt. She's uses a wheel chair much of the time at home. If I take her out often times I can't find an open handicap space. I see most of the people using them are younger and can walk just fine without so much as a limp or even a cane.

I am. What gets me even more are the people who don't have a placard or license plate and do it anyway. And there is nothing wrong w/them. I will admit I have done it a few times, but only when I tore my ACL and was on crutches. I still felt bad cuz I didn't have the placard, but it wasn't that long term and my bf did most of the running around for me during that time. I also just remembered a deal we have here in San Antonio. Just regular citizens can ticket people for parking in handicap and fire zones. I need to sign up. You get sworn in by a judge and can put tickets on the cars. I think that is great. I know that was not the subject, but still it would be fun.
If you sign up, will you issue yourself a ticket for parking in a HC spot? There are temporary HC place cards snd you should signed up for it instead of parking w/o. I understand you were on crutches but you still justified why it was ok for you to bend the LAW. And yet you complain about others.
Everyone is so quick to judge others. Focus on yourself instead.

I think OP was omitting any old-looking people from his disparagement.
What's sad is that most morbidly obese people probably do have awful medical conditions that justify having one of those stickers. A walk across the walmart would probably constitute the best remedy for their ills. Alas, ''my feet get all swollen'' seems to be a solid enough argument against self-improvement for many obese people.
Go into any store and you will see: Kids riding the fat carts. Blacks riding the fat carts. Spanish riding the fat carts. Whites riding the fat carts. Teenagers riding the fat carts. Lazy people riding the fat carts. Idiots who think its fun riding fat carts riding the fat carts. Some are elderly and some have mobility issues and some are fat, but that's under half of the users of them. Likewise people abuse handicapped spaces because they're lazy slobs who think they're entitled to a good space and pretend to be handicapped or they know they won't be called on it.
That kids movie about the trash collection robot on Earth in the future, it had people on a space ship who were fat and just rode around on scooters everywhere. That's where we're headed. Now we have dorks riding those hover boards.
This reminds me at something that happens at my work. I work at a large retail store that supplies those electric riding carts for the disabled. 3 out of 4 times, you will see very heavy people on those carts just being too lazy to walk around and shop. It's become a big joke at work how you need to be at least 300 pounds to ride in one of those. Meanwhile, people with real disabilities have to walk because the carts are all being used by overweight people.
