Very true. Thing is prosecutors wouldn't be on TV talking about the "CSI effect" if it didn't exist. Full DNA evidence in a few minutes? No problem. Full toxicology screen in seconds? Yep, we can do it. Wrap it all up in one hour? Why certainly!
Unfortunately there are many out there that evidently DO think this way.

ATLANTA -- Law enforcement officials say crime scene shows like "CSI" and "Law and Order" distort the public's view of death investigations. And in some cases, they say the shows make it difficult to get convictions in court.

I'll give that more people have a basic knowledge of forensics than they used to..fibers, plant matter, bugs etc.

However, if they think that District attorneys care at all about whether the accused is innocent or guilty, they can think again. Most only care about ticking off another win, and will do whatever is borderline legal to get it. The cops don't care either. they certainly aren't going to go out of their way to bring in proof of your innocence, if you 'look good" for a crime.
Most will say, that's what appeals are for, if you really are innocent.

The only girl he ever molested was his wife, when she was underage. And, she will tell you that she was as willing as he was. He was charged with "Statutory Rape", convicted, and served time. When they were older, the got married and started raising their family. But, he still has to register. I do not believe he belongs in with the ranks of "predators".

If you've ever been petting a male dog, with his paws on your lap... Then, you realize he's got a grip on your leg and is trying to find an opening below your knee cap... You are the victim of an attempted rape. By a dog. Not every dog will do that, which means the instinct varies from one dog to the next. I used to think that a sex-offender simply wasn't able to control his instinct as well as the next man. And, if it weren't for the punishment for rape, the rape/murders would not exist, either.

One day, while surfing the net, looking for information on some 4,000 year-old texts, one of the selections Bing gave me was a site devoted to..... Blood and sex. It looked as though the woman's throat was cut and she was being killed. I was ready to bring the police in, thinking someone had posted pictures of a murder. But, looking closer, the blood and knife were fake. The throat was not cut. If it's on the internet, there's an audience for it. It seems there are people out here that have a need for that to satisfy themselves. THAT is scary. And, what's even worse, I didn't have to have a membership, put in a password, or show that I was over 18 in order to see it. And, if I can stumble onto it, so can young teenagers.

The 19 year-old guy that dates a 15 year-old girl, gets sent up for Statutory Rape, and when he gets out, she's 20 and they get married, I really do not believe he needs to be registered for life. It's not the same thing as a 35 year-old man that has a 15 year-old sugar-baby. Or, the guy that climbs into a bedroom window, hides in the closet, and attacks a woman when she's going to sleep.

There are sex-offenders that need to be taken our of society, and kept out of society. There are others that need to be able to provide for their families, unhindered.
I had a neighbor in that position years ago. When you looked up his registry, it came up as him having been convicted of statutory rape. I'm not sure how it works in other states, but Michigan posts details of what the person was convicted of. He made it a point to let us know when he moved in rather than wait for people to find him on the registry.

My advice to young men is be aware of the law. A 19 year old dating a 15 year old should be, fully, aware of the fact she cannot consent to sex with him whether he likes the law or not. Coersion is still rape. He's the adult and needs to man up and act like the adult. If he chooses not to, he could pay a hefty price but he has no one to blame but himself for his choice to have sex with a minor child.

You do realize this advice requires thinking with the "big head" instead of following the small one right? Not an aptitude most young males possess.

people project their views about gender onto others whenever this topic comes up. IMO it's rooted in the desire to have control over the opposite sex.

women who go hysterical over sexual assault are generally the ones who fear and/or hate men to begin with; same goes for men who trivialize sexual assault or blame the women. In both cases it is a lack of empathy for the opposite sex.

There we go again watering down rape. That is more hateful than anything. The most honorable people I know believe the punishment for rape should be the death penalty. A person had to be a true animal to ever rape another human being.

The reproductive system is special. Everything associated with it is hyped. 35%+ of the internet is porn. Where is the corresponding interest in endocrine function? People don't strut around bragging about their respiratory fitness or their digestive prowess.

There are obviously reasons for this (propagating the species) but I would agree that there is a no man's land between sex and reproduction that exploits the parts of our brains hardwired for procreation.

Somehow sexual assault triggers something primal in our brains, possibly relating sexual desirability to fertility and the idea that the offspring from a previously "untouched" woman is sure to be our own.

might be great for you, however, you were someone's son, and if your parents would have known, well, whole different ball game....
if your a five year old little girl and you are molested, it is a life changer to say the least....

Oh the irony, and honesty.
