Next month there is going to be lots of discussion about immigration, legal and illegal. One of the topics of discussion will be which immigrants should be allowed to stay in America.
Right now if an immigrant green card holder, or someone who is under some other temporary VISA, commits a felony there is a good chance that you will be deported. But what about those that commit a misdemeanor?
Should we only allow immigrants who have a perfect record stay in our country or should we give them a break because these are relatively minor crimes? Is drunk driving, simple assault and shoplifting for example really minor crimes?
I think a single misdemeanor should not affect legal residents. Some quantity of misdemeanors (maybe 3) should make the person have a hearing before a I agrarian judge where they can decide if the person should stay.

Yep, that's my view too. If an illegal alien is caught committing a crime they should be deported. However, if a foreign person here legally is caught committing a crime which does not carry a jail sentence they shouldn't be deported unless they are a habitual offender. If a person here legally is caught committing a crime which does carry jail time then they should be extradited to their country to be sentenced there.
Under the Obama administration if this travesty of an amnesty passes illegal immigrants will be given a pass on their felony theft of SS numbers and ID's used to work and live here. Americans wouldn't get a pass on that crime.
WHY WORRY ABOUT THE ONE'S GOING THRU THE SYSTEM TO LEGALLY BE HERE WHEN THE CRIMINALS HERE ILLEGALLY ARE NOT BEING SENT HOME ? ANY Illegal should be sent to where they came from regardless of any other "crime" they may or may not commit, with a huge tatoo on their forehead that says I'm a criminal. Makes it easy to round them up and send them home next time.
No, a legal immigrant should not be deported for a misdemeanor crime, heck I don't even think they should be deported for a felony because I think if you are gonna go through the process of being a citizen, you should face the same punishment an American faces when committing a felony.

They often do get punished and sent to prison, then deported once their sentence has been completed.
For me, it would depend on the misdemeanor, whether or not it was violent, whether or not the criminal follows through on paying any restitution to the victim (if there was one), and even if the criminal took a plea to avoid a felony trial.
There are people who are convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence, which is a disqualifier for purchasing or owning a firearm. On the other hand, reckless driving in Virginia is a Class I misdemeanor, and you can get nailed for it by driving 81 mph where the speed limit is 70 mph on the interstate.
