I don't think this indicator is as accurate as one would like to think. In my eyes, the state of Washington would be freer than Georgia. In Washington state, marijuana laws are alot more relaxed compared to Georgia. Seattle has some of the nation's most lenient gun laws.
Seriously! #29?
With the freedom to marry the person of your choice, regardless of their gender, the freedom to use marijuana, medically and now legal for anyone over the age of 21, the freedom for terminally ill people to make end of life choices or themselves (death with dignity)?
Those rankings are a complete joke. It's basically just partisan right wing ideologues claiming they have a monopoly on "freedom" while in reality they couldn't be further from it.
Perhaps it's a matter of perspective. Freedom for gay marriage vs freedom from gay marriage. Freedom for marijuana use vs freedom from marijuana use..... Just sayin
Yeah, not everyone is pot smoking homosexual laying on their deathbed. Some of us have good paying jobs and look at our with holdings that are stolen and given to others

That is as important as the original link, imo. How they are calculating 'freedom' is perhaps more important than their results.
For example, a state's fiscal policy (taxes, spending, gov employment, etc) is more heavily weighted than the personal freedoms a person has in their state. The fiscal policy also carries more weight than a state's regulatory policy which also ranks above an individual's actual freedoms.
They admit everyone may count freedoms differently. Looking at their list, I dang sure agree with that statement. The rest of it boggles.
Indeed. The weighting seems to be designed to give a particular outcome. When I'm thinking about freedom, my personal rights certainly are more important than "Freedom from Tort Abuse." One look at who's on the board of the Mercatus Center tells you all you need to know about the organization.
I'm seriously expected to believe that Utah and Idaho, authoritarian hellscapes that I would never set foot in, much less live in because they are so anti-freedom, are among the best in the nation?
This is a map of places with low taxes and limited liability, not a map of freedom. They got the title wrong.
Things do get marginally better if you ignore the Overall map and look at the others instead.

That would be quite the ridiculous "perspective." If you drive into the state of Washington, there aren't guards at the border who stop you and force you to get gay married and smoke a blunt.

You must live in one of those oppressive blue states that fund those freedom loving red states.
And I love mine. Indiana sent me a check for a couple hundred dollars of revenue they didnt use. Ranked # 16 on this list #1 in regulation
