This is how dumb the assault weapons ban is. This is a Remington 7400. It shoots or can be purchased in several different calibers. Most of which are much more powerful than the 223/5.56 used in most of the AR platform guns.
The other thing about the AWB that is dumb is the Ruger mini 14 which shoots the 223 is banned if it has a folding stock but on the protected list if it has the wood stock. If you don't see how stupid this is your as dumb as the bill.

that is why by the time a ban is ever put into place by the feds, I will have enough of the socalled banned firearms that I can pass them down to all of my childrens grandchildren.

The main point of Feinstien's ban is calling out 158 specific models of "banned" guns, creating a registry under NFA-34 of grandfathered "banned" weapons and forbidding any later transfer of grandfathered weapons, including through your will / estate planning.
With the filing of your death certificate, just like if you owned a Title II machine gun, they will come-a-knocking looking for the registered weapons and your executor will be "on the hook" for them . . .
This thread skirts the primary issue. That issue is many people are scared out of their rational minds by the sheer existence of deadly weaponry. To lessen their fear they would ban ALL weaponry because weapons are scary. These people banned all manner of knives before they got around to banning guns.
I could redefine the term “assault gun” to mean any gun used to assault someone else. Thus I propose, like the basic goal of the gun grabbers, this definition could apply to any gun because all types of guns could be used to commit an assault. That is a neat piece of circular reasoning.
I do not agree with any of the arguments for banning guns. I would like to see the 1934 Federal Firearms act with its absurd licensing and tax system repealed. IMHO there are no dangerous guns but there are lots of dangerous people. Some think banning the weapons will stop the people. They are wrong.
Another thought. Maybe some of these frightened people cannot concieve of having to defend themselves. I cannot concieve of not being able to defend myself.

But why those 158 models?
Is it because they are accurate?
Is it because they shoot fast?
Is it because they shoot far away?
Is it because they load certain bullets?

So people don't value the need to defend themselves any more?

No, none of that. There is no rational criteria based on any performance or mechanical criteria . . . Feinstein admits looking at pictures on the internet and gun catalog books and compiling the list from that.
