Do you have kids? These people have suffered so much and for these types of comments to be made.....
I do have kids, they've been raised to be responsible human beings who don't attack other humans. These people have suffered the loss of a son who made a grave mistake, a million dollars isn't going to bring him back.
The HOA isn't paying this money, their insurance company is and you can bet their attorneys want no part of a trial over money when dealing with uncivilized people who want to profit from the death of their son.
Huh? I know the HOA most likely has insurance and that the attorneys for the insurance company would be handling this. You must be kidding if you think an insurance company would be squeamish about fighting over this if they thought there was any way possible that they wouldn't have to pay.
Lawyers are lawyers....it's their business to fight over money for an insurance company. And, of course, the HOA was liable because Zimmerman was given the responsibility of Neighborhood Watch volunteer. They knew it.
As for profiting from their son's death.....even over $1 million is an enormously SMALL amount for the life of their son. However, this financial punishment for the HOA insurance company should serve as an example to other HOAs and organizations that having private individuals carrying guns on their property to "protect" the place is just plain insane.

But a million dollars just may serve to make HOAs and their insurance companies much, much more cautious about "appointing" some private citizen they know very little about as a Neighborhood Watch person. It actually may serve to save a life in the future. The million dollars was punitive for the HOA of that apartment/condo complex.

Oh please.. I could just see the left wing kooks all calling for people to cancel their business with an insurance company who wouldnt give money to them because they are greedy and racist.

You dont need a HOA's approval to start a neighborhood watch program..
Using the death of your son for a million in mailbox money is a lot lower than pointing out the truth about it.
In fact, it's totally absurd to let your son's death, by an irresponsible individual acting on behalf of a condo Neighborhood Watch association, go unnoticed. A million dollars isn't really all that much these days. Hopefully it was enough to get the attention of insurance companies who insure HOAs. There is nothing "low" at all about suing in a wrongful death case. THIS was clearly a wrongful death. As someone else said, though, I'm sure they'd much rather have their son back than the money.
