Did Laura Bush "sell out" American values to Muslims?
I remember all of the fuss that was made about Nancy Pelosi on her trip to Syria because she wore a head scarf.
For those who complained... do you think Laura is being equally disrespectful?
Personally I think that there was nothing wrong with a head scarf. If it was a burka, that would be different.

No! Laura Bush and Nancy Pelosi both were exhibiting respect when abroad.
When I go abroad, I try to respect the customs of that country!

Honestly
The head scarf comes from the Near Eastern, pre-Islamic tradition.
Mary probably wore one. So have most women in that area for thousands of years.
Western women wearing the head scarf in a Middle Eastern nation is like me taking off my shoes in a Japanese restaurant. The burka is another story, but the head scarf is simple modesty.

I can accept that: likewise; it can be risky to wear even a hajib here in Western countries------and, Muslim Turkey all but bans the things.

Totally, when you are in a western nation I expect you to make sarifices from your cultural norm. It isn't a one way street. The European nations especially are justified in banning them. Turkey is an anomolie of Islamic nations. It has been liberalized since the 1920s. It allows it to have a better position for itself, and I think its people are better off for it. (Not that they should be an EU nation, but that's a tangent)

yes absolutely, the wife of the worst president ever sold us out! those of the muslim culture don't think twice about dressing like us whenever they visit the United States. even those who emigrate over here from the muslim countries don't try to adapt american clothing styles. so why should laura bush?

If anything, she upheld the American values of respect and tolerance for other cultures and religions.

Glad you can be objective. I'm sure you would have criticized her for not wearing a scarf because you obviously have a problem with her showing respect to other countries.
