We've been in military conflict after military conflict the last couple of decades. I always liked the presidency of Dwight D. Eisenhower, and I bet that his being general in WW2 considerably influenced who he was as a politician.

...Besides McCain and Ron Paul, I can't seem to recall people who had a shot at the presidency that had a distinguished military career recently. A military career can bring experience in foreign policy, among other things..

Probably in about 15-20 years when the barely 20s troops went to war and they get to that age of running for various offices before going for president.

Why not?
George Washington was a war vet.

Although it's easy to see how a war vet can be someone with world domination in their sights, the better ones have had exceptional presidencies.

that will depend on when a military leader decides to step up and make a run for office. there are some in lower offices who might make a run in a few years, we shall see.

We currently have a golf vet in office.

Do we need anything more?

Well, there are Negative Wars - Wars undeclared by Congress;

And, there are Positive Wars - Wars declared by Congress.

Course then, there are Fiction Wars - Cancer, Poverty, Drugs, etc.

And finally, there are Real Wars - Where the U.S. is attacked but not by its design.

Wars of Resolution of Congress, are Unconstitutional Invasions of Foreign and Domestic territories (commonly known as war crimes).

There's always some retired Generals who get into politics.
Who knows who the next one might be.
