Let me guess...the people at this party, they worked for a living right? And didn't collect welfare?
Generally the nature of things is that often folks tend to have/adopt a lot of the politics of their local area. I remember in 2004 I thought the same thing about Bush initially almost no one I knew voted for him. However shortly afterwords I took some trips out of my comfort zone to some very conservative places and soon learned exactly how Bush won. I suspect the same is true with you and Obama.
I did meets someone before election, she was fat, bleached blond and smoked. When I asked why she was voting for Obama she said, "I like him". I know another woman that voted for him, she is dumb as a rock though. Do you really know how people perceive you? It would be funny to see if we could identify them just by looking at them, looking at habits, how they act and live.
If you see someone handing their EBT card to buy something you just met someone who voted for Obama. If you meets someone who has a kid or two or three and never married you met someone who voted for Obama.
Are they still waiting for that hope and change thing they were promised?
