However, a weapon for home defense should have a larger clip or magazine, because the home owner would be grabbing that weapon in an emergency situation, and the rounds in the weapon would probably be all he/she would have time for. It's not like you can tell the rapist or burglar to "hey, wait a sec, I have to grab an extra magazine."

Now if you are out hunting, or going to the shooting range, you will have time to bring extra ammunition. but in a home invasion, you may only have time enough to grab the weapon, and whatever amount of rounds are in the weapon, may be all you will ever have.
In the event of a home invasion (especially in a situation that involved numerous perpetrators), a 30-round magazine would certainly be preferable--you've articulated the justification for owning such a magazine as logically as anyone could.

In contrast, I can't really think of a past instance where a 30-round magazine would have been necessarily crucial in halting a public shooting (Columbine would, I guess, be a possible exception). Standard handguns have been used in every case I can think of where an armed citizen or police officer stopped a mass-murderer in his tracks .

Hey guys, where are all the links to incidents in which law-abiding citizens used a 30 round clip to fight off bad guys?! Still waiting.......

Because over the last 30 years 42 guns with high-capacity magazines have been used in 31 mass-shooting cases--no problem finding those.

Let's take a look at just the last 5 years:

2012:

Sandy Hook - high-capacity magazine
Accent Signage systems, Minneapolis - high-capacity magazine.
Sikh temple, Oak Creek WI - high-capacity magazine
Aurora movie theater - high-capacity magazine

2011

IHOP - Carson City, NV - high-capacity magazine
Tucson - high-capacity magazine

2010
Hartford Distributors, CT - high-capacity magazine

2009
Ford Hood, TX - high-capacity magazine
Binghamton, NY - high-capacity magzine

2008
Northern Illinois, Dekalb - high capacity magazine

Lives lost: lots
Lives saved: 0

OK, now let's see the count of lives saved. C'mon guys---you can do it!

As already pointed out in Post 68:

Probably zero.

Does that mean none of them held 30 rounds?

Relying on the media to inform us of news on the good uses of guns, is foolish.
Unsurprisingly, we find ellmint exercising exactly that foolishness.

Actually, a shotgun would be a far better weapon for home defense than a rifle with a high-capacity magazine.

How about 2 million just in Texas.

FACTS ON FERAL HOGS

They are a real problem. The government should be handing out 30 shot magazines free of charge.

Not really. Shotguns are longer and heavier. They are also harder to use because of recoil. The amount of shots you have is very limited and you are responsible for every piece of shot you fire so you better know where every single piece of those 9-12 pieces of shot in a 12 guage 00 buck round are going. Range is very limited as well.
Bird shot is horible for self defense as it does not have the energy needed to stop an attacker.

A handgun or an ar15 would be a better choice for many.

Same reason your local Police carry. Have you ever heard of a cop needing a high capacity magazine ?

If they can have it, we should also.

Not talking about bird shot. use buckshot. Nor a single shot weapon either. These are particularly effective at a small range (like a bed room). And you don't have to aim especially well using one of these as with a rifle.
