Should individuals treated for mental conditions like PTSD or arrested for domestic abuse be prohibited from purchasing or possessing firearms?

I don't know, wouldn't that cut the field of potential GOP candidates in half?

People with mental issues should only lose their civil rights if they are a danger to themselves or others as determined by a court of law. I am fine with felony domestic abusers to lose their civil rights after conviction. I am also fine with violent felons from losing their gun rights. Non violent felons should be able to own a gun, think Martha Stuart.

So should a soldier treated for PTSD or a husband removed from his home after a domestic complaint be banned? From what I've heard, those are red flags now in the Federal background check database.

If the soilder is a danger to himself or others as determined by a court of law, we already have a process for this called "conservatorship" then be can lose his rights. Just having PTSD should not preclude him, but it could. Same with demotic abuse, if they are convicted and its a felony then you take take away their rightst. And that is how it is currently at a federal level, certain states are different.

I think any person who is suicidal or homicidal should be banned from owing a gun.
