There was a case recently[I'll find the link] where "parents" didnt want yoga to be thought in school PE because yoga fosters an Eastren philosophy...meaning a different way of thinking.
Even back in the darkest of the Dark Ages (the early 60s), we learned about other religions, their "holy books", etc in public school in a heavily Catholic area of Pennsylvania. We also learned about the different theories about how the world began, and we had to write a paper about it.

You're reading into my post something I was not conveying.
The OP link is about a Bible so I'm referring to a Bible.

If the OP link said Koran then I would also say Koran. Ok ?

Indoctrination usually comes from a teacher and not a book.
Again...would you be fine with Scientology or Heaven's Gate tracts being handed out in school?

Those same founding fathers made it a point not to include religion in the constitution. Rightfully so. You wouldn't want Christianity as a part of the government and teachings of this country would you? Could you imagine how absurd a public school system would be if you started every morning with a religious prayer led by the faculty?

They left it for the States to include it, or exclude it and EVERY SINGLE State Constitution in this country decided to include it. All of them mention God.

Would it be wrong for the state to hand out Korans? Tao Te Ching?

Let's not confuse the zealots' request for religion in schools to mean anything other than JUST Christianity.

So did I and I went to Catholic school. The nuns didn't seem so fearful about teaching us about the other religions. I remember we did compare/contrast charts of the various religions and I can recall many of those major points today that differs one religion from another.

Pretty sad that people are so divided these days that education suffers.

Can you imagine a 5th grader trying to read the Tao Te Ching? LOL. I read it as an adult and I still don't know what the hell it was about.

I was only using Bible because that is the content of the OP link.
Would the term "holy book" make you feel better ?

Is this thread not about Bibles in public school ?

So?

There are states in the union that will not allow an atheist to hold public office.

Is that legal just because a state decided it and not the feds?
Hint: No.
