I don't understand what you're getting at. Could you be more specific please?

From the videos I've seen, the explosion (or one of them) took place behind or under the stands, right next to the finish line.

Hard to believe that a vehicle with a bomb could get in there without being stopped and inspected.

Only other thing, it seems to me, is a person with a suicide bomb belt under his clothes.

If so, there won't be much left to put on trial. But could he have operated alone? Where did he get the explosives? Who, if anyone, helped him?
From what I can gather they were IEDs that could have been placed along the building in a package or a backpack.

I posted this in the current events but that forum apparently doesn't get much use. NY Post reporting that there are 12 dead, almost 50 wounded and a suspect is in the hospital being guarded. I'm not sure what "being guarded" means, or why he's being guarded but that's what they are reporting.

12 dead, nearly 50 injured after 2 explosions rock Boston Marathon, suspect identified and being guarded in hospital - NYPOST.com

I get your point, but the only thing "basic" about what he did was use fertilizer. What he accomplished though was very complex. Government investigators are still perplexed as to how he obtained that level of expertise. A bomb the size of the OKC bomb was nothing short of a technical masterpiece.

Does she have to take public transportation? I wouldn't be getting on the subway or a bus right now...

Don't. I wish I hadn't. Usually photos like that with a warning are quite mild; this one took me by surprise. It's one of the most graphic photos I've ever seen on a mainstream media outlet.
