They should have the right to decide not to marry a couple. I'm sure those couples were able to find other Churches that were willing to marry them. I don't understand your point.
My point is the church has never been required to have a marriage ceremony for anyone. It will not be required to have marriage ceremonies for same sex couples either.
It's ok to be gay if you lie about it and keep it secret. That's the lesson the Catholic church (and other Christian denominations) teaches each and every minute of the day. FACT. There is at least one homosexual in YOUR church and you think they are just swell.
I don't think that's the message at all. Had she told the school administrators during her interview 19 years ago, they would have thanked her for stopping by, and never offered her the position.
Why didn't she seek employment with the public school system?
Right or wrong? The school was wrong. Ms. Hale did not do anything illegal or inappropriate. She was just listed as a mourner in an obituary, along with her partner.
Hope she sues them.
She won't win if she did. Religious school, religious freedom, why is it hard for you atheists to comprehend that?
Do I think it's morally right? No. Would I do it? No. But she works for a religious school, which comes with certain expectations of acceptable behavior by employees from the employer. What she is doing is against their religion. Right or wrong, many of the parents send their kids to that particular school in order avoid people in situations like hers.
It could be worse, she could be a priest banging the kids, oh wait, that's ok I forgot.

Perhaps she read up on the Catholic church and felt she'd be a good fit.
If it were in the contract then that's a breach of contract.
Religious schools usually have additional wording in their contract about how the person needs to conduct themselves both in and out of school.
Religious freedom does not = right to discriminate in an employment situation.
What do you think that whole Obama/contraception thing was about?
Once you are on board with an employer....
It does if there was a contract involved stating that said teacher must live and abide by certain rules in keeping with the faith. It's not rocket science to figure this out. An Islamic school would have done the same thing

It's not discrimination if they are private and you sign a contract knowing what is in it. She didn't have to work there. Plus who knows when she started to have a "partner", it might have just been this year. She still has the duty to inform her employer she is going against the contract she signed. There are many things in contracts that employees have to adhere to. Many are fired when people find out they are going against the contract.
