Ronald Reagan's daughter says he wouldn

“I think he would be puzzled, on the one hand, on why anyone would have a problem with people wanting to be married and wanting to be committed to one another,” Davis said. “What difference does it make to anybody else’s life? I also think because he wanted government out of peoples’ lives, he would not understand the intrusion of government banning such a thing. This is not what he would have thought government should be doing.”

Reagan was a traditionalist in most respects; on the other hand, he publicly opposed the Briggs Initiative (which would have banned gay teachers) and although his campaigns benefited greatly from evangelical Christians, he was not one himself.

I think the only reasonable answer is "I don't know."

Based on his view of government interference in people's lives, and pushing people's faith on others, he would have said that government shouldn't be involved in telling anyone who they can marry as long as they are consenting adults. He wouldn't have supported same sex marriage because he wouldn't have been in favor of restricting marriage to opposite sex couples in the first place.

If Reagan was nothing else, he was a man of substance, so i don't really buy that.

Reagan is the guy that gave the evangelicals such a huge voice (unfortunately) in government. If i have any issue with Reagan, that one makes me the angriest. Sad thing is that most of his underlings knew that the religio-nuts were out of their minds, but they had become a huge part of the base by then.

So no, he wouldn't have supported it. Reagan was a very traditional American.

Reagan consistently supported traditional family values.

Same-sex marriage wasn't an issue when he was in office, but given his unapologetic position on pornography, abortion and school prayer I can't see him approving of unnatural homosexual unions being lumped in with marriage.

A true Republican would ask: pre or post-Alzheimer's Reagan?

Reagan was old Hollywood and not liberal leftist Hollywood. Remember the Dick Van Dyke show - the dentist friend was an actor called Jerry Paris. I watched Paris work in Toronto as a director. He was old school Hollywood and not politically correct. When he needed an actor on set that he assumed was gay...He would yell out to an assistant.."Bring me the little **g" Reagan was from this era - they did not have political correctness back then..He would have spoken his mind and probably put it in simple terms that some ideas are not traditional and not good.
