I thought you were going to use statistics to prove how lax gun control in FL is fueling a crime wave.
It shows a continual increase in the % of homicides by firearms since 2005. Look again.

Well, in that case Florida deserves a pat on the back. Dead is dead in my book. Take away a gun and they use a bat, crowbar, or bomb.

People in Florida now have an excuse to prevent a murder conviction.
The result is fewer homicides being recorded.

Florida's "stand your ground'' law has allowed drug dealers to avoid murder charges and gang members to walk free. It has stymied prosecutors and confused judges. • It has also served its intended purpose, exonerating dozens of people who were deemed to be legitimately acting in self-defense. Among them: a woman who was choked and beaten by an irate tenant and a man who was threatened in his driveway by a felon.

Seven years since it was passed, Florida's "stand your ground" law is being invoked with unexpected frequency, in ways no one imagined, to free killers and violent attackers whose self-defense claims seem questionable at best.

Murders in 2007 = 1200
Murders in 2011 = 980

These statistics do not prove your claim about lax gun laws. That is your personal opinion.

Total % murders by firearms in 2005: 59.1

Total % murders by firearms in 2011: 70.2

http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/Content/..._firearms.aspx

And the 70.2% does not include all those murders that were not classified as such because the murderer used the "stand your ground" law as a way to avoid prosecution.

FBI report (2011) on increased gangs and increased violent activity by gangs.
Florida is one state mentioned having an increase.

Yeah, but for every shooting like that you have dozens and dozens of the "drive-by" and gang\drug variety.

We all know it.

So why does a newspaper lead with a rather rare case of gun death?

It's like warning kids about the perils of driving and focusing on collisions with deer instead of drunk driving and excessive speed and distracted driving.
