Timur literally means "iron". In all Turkic languages it sounds more or less the same and is a common name for males.
Interestingly, the real name of Genghis Khan is Temujin, which means blacksmith.

In Mandarin Chinese, the word for iron is "tie", and probably also has the same root. Mandarin for blacksmith is tiejiang.

Not very impressive.

Truth is that Chechens weren't part of the conquering horde. If anything, they lived under the heel of the Tatars. But it did provide a model for "being tough". Tamerlane would massacre whole towns, retreat to the hinterland, wait for survivors to return, thinking the Tatars had left, then return and wipe out the rest. It was total extermination. Now if Stalin had followed Tatar philosophy, there'd BE no Chechen terror today.

How many human heads would it take to impress you?

What does that say about people who name their children Alex?

Very few- read history. The model of Alexander was to spare the population and keep local magistrates intact, demanding only allegience to Alexander. This, of course, was a deviation of the "subjugate and slaughter" method of previous conquerers and is a part of the reason Alexander was successful.
