"Karp snapped a shot of Boston Commons covered in tanks and military tents before she was forced to stay indoors. It’s a scene that was anything but normal."
But, what's with this paralyzing fear? One armed teenager forces curfew on a population of one million? Does it sound normal? What if a well trained armed unit attacks? Will the US be totally out of business?
I think so. Americans will go scurrying behind closed doors and won't come out until Uncle Sam says so.
The reaction of Massachusetts's state and federal officials to the Boston Marathon bombings — two black powder bombs with nails and ball bearings that killed three people — can be contrasted with the wave of 125 nearly identical bombings, technologically speaking, that took place across America in major U.S. cities during the 1917-20 "Red Scare." The differences are that many more were killed 100 years ago and the federal government did not shut down entire cities.
Although the period is known as the "Red Scare," the genuine security threat was greater than the threat authorities responded to in Boston. And with the exception of one warrantless search by the Justice Department's Bureau of Investigation (later the FBI) under J. Edgar Hoover, the public's liberties were respected.
On June 2, 1919, in eight cities, bombs exploded. Targets included: J. P. Morgan, John D. Rockefeller, Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes, U.S. Attorney General Alexander Mitchell Palmer, and immigration officials. Not one town was shut down.
The Left resorting to terror for 100 years, how quaint.
OK that makes sense. I was just going by the articles I read, and the pictures I saw of empty streets. Looked to me like they had it pretty well shut down.
I was in my office for most of the morning so I think that initially no one was out but as the morning progressed people started to get out. I was in South Boston and there were definitely fewer cars driving around. Watertown was a different story though. The people there were hunkered down.
The message is, that if you f#ck with us, we'll hunt you down like a dog, and we will not stop till we get you!
While some terrorists may hesitate whether they really want to pay with their life, or think they might get away with it, we let them know they won't get away with it, and they will pay with their life, without question.
They got the guys in 4 days--that's remarkable. If you're a suicide bomber it might not make a difference, but if you're some idiot who thinks you're going to get away with something like that, this should make them think twice.
Well ~ let's see. How many days did it take us to catch Bin Laden and how many days did take us to catch the Tsameav brothers (or whatever)?
People in Boston are not complaining. Why are you, OP?
I have no desire to live as an Israeli, thank you. If I did - I would live there. Israel has their own problems; why compare. Little difference in population size as well.
How many crime scenes have you worked? Let's hear your experience.
None, but I do know enough about how law enforcement normally handles such situations. Normally they set up a perimeter around the suspect. Then use helicopters and police dogs to search for the suspect. If all that fails and knowing that the suspect is injured, they would maintain perimeter control, and wait as long as necessary for him to try and leave the area.
Never would they lock down the entire city, or even the area outside the perimeter. Because thats just dumb.
It's rare that Israel apprehends a specific terrorist or bomber (of course, many of the terrorists die in the attacks by blowing themselves up ... along with others). The country, instead, launches military attacks on the specific organization it believes was behind the terrorist attack. And in the process many innocent people are slaughtered. Israel has absolutely nothing to teach the USA about these things. Except that the attacks on the USA are almost always because the USA has been Israel's strongest supporter.

How do you "know" if you've never actually worked a crime scene? TV? The movies? You've never worked a perimeter, why should anyone listen to you?
