We were also used to typewriters, dial telephones, black and white analog TV sets, AM radio and all kinds of stuff. Somehow we have managed to advance ourselves over the course of time in most areas. At the very least we should begin to convert to Metrics. We could put up hybird signs (some places have them) that give distances and speed limits in both miles and km much as the speedomters in cars give both. And tempertures can be given in F and C as many devices already do. As people get used to Metrics and get comfortable with it, eventually the change will be painless. It really is a better system once you use it.
No. I don't care how big a soda is. I want to hear the temperature in something meaningful. I want to buy yards of material. I want miles per gallon. Other things have no meaning. I don't care about the ease of conversion. It's about what translates to people.
There is absolutely nothing confusing about the metric system. NOTHING.
We're so damn stupid in the United States that it's mind boggling. Everytime one of my maintenance guys comes to me needing a wrench or socket and i hear something as asinine as "i need a 5/16" i just get a headache at the stupidity that such a thing still exists.
Measuring everything from temperature to liquid amounts is a cinch in metric. I don't understand why we're determined to be so idiotic in this country.
Only if you are used to it. I would requrie EVERYTHING be marked in both in equal sizes and available in exactl amounts. Meaning if you want a gallon you get a gallon exactly.
Since Imperial is not a problem for all but a few people who think we should be like everyone else there really isn't any reason to. There should be a parallel petition to say do not convert. Guess which one would get more signatures.
Which is utterly meaningless. My ID is in feet and inches which is meaningful. These are the things which mean something, not the size of a package you buy at the store.
If we change to the metric system what will happend to foot-long hot dogs and yards of beer...
What are you going to order a 30.48 centimeter hot dog or 0.91 meter of beer? No way, man...
I'd insist my footlong from Subway be a 12 full inches, no metric allowed. And stuff like fabric would be bought in yards. They get to do the math.
