Did I forget the kinder gentler machinegun hand.

Can we form some sort of non-partisan union to deal with our financial problems once and for all? We're all getting screwed. Doesn't matter what your affiliation is.

Green seems to be the only color that matters these days.

You'll bet?

lol...

How much will you bet?

Romney lost because no one believed he was good for the Nation. He was a terrible candidate.

Well this is interesting.

Corporate welfare is an interesting phenomena. Tell us more.

Social welfare as an economic burden has always been a distraction. Corporate welfare is much more taxing on our economy

Plus it's Social Security and Medicare that are making us go broke not programs like WIC

These are the programs that are breaking the bank

Medicare & Medicaid $802 Billion
Social Security $768 Billion
Defense Spending $670 Billion

Facts about section 8 housing. To qualify applicants must:

Quote:
Applicants who live or work in the jurisdiction and are at least one of the following:
  • Families with dependent children.
  • Working Applicants- (Must have worked at least 32 + hours per week for the previous six months. Applicants may combine job training or an academic program as part of the previous 12-month requirement. Applicants receiving Unemployment, Disability, or Workman's Compensation Benefits will be considered qualifying under the preference if those benefits were the result 12 continuous months of employment at 32 + hours per week up to the start of the above referenced benefits.)
  • Elderly families (head of household or spouse is 62 years of age or older).
  • Disabled families (head of household or spouse is disabled).
  • Veterans or surviving spouses of veterans (other than dishonorable discharge)

The maximum allowed voucher is $2200 a month based upon the Federal cost of living charts so most places get a minimum of $500 and only a few (examples NYC or San Francisco) get the highest amount based upon cost of living. Income must be below 50% of the median income for the county in which they reside.

I honestly don't know much about section 8 other than around here there is something like a 10 year wait to get it around here so effectively the program is capped well below demand and it mostly goes to low income single mothers who have a lot of kids. Of all the welfare programs this one seems like the most generous and the most easily abused.

That said, there are a lot of restriction including the requirement that two kids be put in each room and the house have no additional rooms than that while to decrease fraud no renting from family members is allowed so there are some big restrictions which do control fraud.

I guess that for a family that is barely surviving packing up and moving to an area that is MORE expensive than where they left is a easy thing to do

What a joke that Nancy Pelosi tries selling "Food stamps / welfare is an economic stimulus".
Actually she was partly right. The poor and the middleclass fuel the economy by always buying crap that they don't need instead of saving or investing like their wealthier counterparts.
