Well, here are the raw murder totals (and national rates per 100,000) from 1960 to 1969, by the FBI's reckoning:

1960: 9,110 (5.1)
1961: 8,740 (4.8)
1962: 8,530 (4.6)
1963: 8,640 (4.6)
1964: 9,360 (4.9)
1965: 9,960 (5.1)
1966: 11,040 (5.6)
1967: 12,240 (6.2)
1968: 13,800 (6.9)
1969: 14,760 (7.3)

...

2011: 14,612 (4.7)

So I would imagine that more than a few of those many thousands of murders involved grisly domestic disputes.

In all fairness I learned how to safely cross the street from playing Frog-ger on the Atari 2600. However I will admit I learned how to eat flies too.

EDIT: I had to self censor Frog-ger cuz it got bleeped out. What in the world????

There wasn't internet or 24 hr cable news. Something had to be important to fit into the 30 minute national news segment if it wasn't local. Be lucky if you read anything about a murder in a neighbor state in the old days of newspaper.

Things are not worse...the media is more sensationalist and there are more outlets...

Ask teachers now. Just heard a teacher say two kids got into a squabble at school and when they tried to get their parents involved for the day at school the parents got into a fist fight. She said parents can't control themselves now, how can they teach their kids to?

It's all because of un-checked capitalism and liberalism.

The culture of 'me' that is portrayed as good.

It's vile, base and spineless.

This is why we must have a 'Socialism for the 21st Century' agenda.

Socialism is vile, base and spineless. It doesn't start out that way but it gets there pretty fast.

IMO we can't go wrong with what Jesus taught, "Treat your brother as you would treat yourself" but that may be too religious for you since you are an unbeliever.

So I take it you are a fan of Liberation Theology then?

That's socialist and Christian - how does that work for you?
