Snowden withdraws Russian asylum bid after Putin says he must 'stop harming' US - World News

MOSCOW - NSA leaker Edward Snowden withdrew a request for political asylum in Russia after President Vladimir Putin said he should stop "harming our American partners," a government spokesman said on Tuesday.

"He must stop his work aimed at harming our American partners, as strange as that sounds coming from my lips," he told reporters in Moscow. "He must choose a country of destination and go there. Unfortunately, I don't know when this will happen."

Putin said Russia was not working with Snowden but also did not plan to give him to the United States.

Maybe North Korea will take him. I'm sure he'll be quite happy in a country where even just making unauthorized international telephone calls is punishable by death.

Sure, in the end all governments are the same and will seek to destroy anyone who threatens its existence.

He is quickly becoming the pariah of the world. No one wants him. North Korea is a possibility though.

Wouldn't be surprised if Russia got all the information they could from him and now they are cutting him loose. Apparently Wikileaks lawyer, on behalf of Snowden, applied to 21 countries requesting asylum for him. Seems no one wants him.

Russia and the majority of the countries of the world benefit from the counter-terrorism efforts of the NSA. They do not wish to see those efforts compromised and their citizens put in harms way by some punk traitor out to make a name for himself anymore than the US does.

If he entered Russia with four lap-tops, he will most likely be leaving with none, with all four lap-tops being worked on by the Russian intelligence. Yes, none of the countries he applied to has accepted him. He is toxic.
