No, but really, will someone tell me why the right keeps insisting that Obama is a socialist? Is it because if people realized he was Keynesian, and those people actually looked up what that is, they would all be like, "oh, that sounds pretty good!"? Because that's what I'm assuming. You are trying to trick people into thinking something that could benefit them will equal Soviet Union State Capitalism by calling Obama a socialist. Pretty much.

Or do you all just really not comprehend what socialism is?

For anyone genuinely interested in the question of the president's intellectual relationship to laissez-faire, this essay, and the more responsible comments in reply, will make for stimulating and interesting reading (even if you haven't read either the Osawatomie speech or Adam Smith):

The Philosopher's Beard: If Obama is a socialist, so was Adam Smith

Quote:
Reading Obama's speech in full, what do we find? Does he condemn capitalism and propose socialism? Hardly. Far from rejecting capitalism, Obama explicitly embraces it

I would (assume) I have 3 choices.

He's either a capitalist, a socialist, or a communist.

And Obama does not fit the definition of a socialist or a communist.

And since B. Obama (does not care enough about deficits), he extended the Bush tax cuts (like a republican.)
Obama is a capitalist.

Did Arkansas do that? I hope not. We would be screwed without all those tax dollars coming in from the blue states!

Big Business is pretty grateful he is a strong capitalist supporter, in that he'll do whatever Big Business tells him to do (like bail them out with taxpayer dollars).

But only because that is the only way to accomplish what he REALLY wants: the biggest, most intrusive and expensive Big Government possible. Big Business supports him fully in this endeavor, since Big Government wipes out the small and mid-sized businesses that compete with Big Business, give workers jobs and bargaining power, and inhibit society from splitting into ultra-wealthy versus the other 99.9999999%.

Democrats in Washington are just as much Big Business drones as non-Libertarian Republicans--but Obama and the Liberal Media pretend to defend the average citizen from Big Business and their evil Republican supporters.

How can anyone ignore the fact that Obama and fellow Democrats have supported Big Business 100% and given the average citizen nothing but cost increases and job losses? Who continued the Bush "stimulus" that went to only the ultra-rich and never trickled down? Who failed to so much as investigate a single Big Finance executive after they caused the 2008 crash, while provide taxpayer bail outs that resulted in huge bonuses to those responsible? http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/31/bu...1pay.html?_r=0

Who is the #1 financial beneficiary of Obamacare? Insurance companies, whose stocks started to skyrocket once insiders knew the fix was in, and continued to do so after it became law: Aetna up 33%, UnitedHealth up 65%, and Humana up 76%, while the S&P 500 Index rose only 14%.

Compare that to the impact on the average worker: 7-40 million will lose employer-provided health care altogether according to the CBO, while 3.2 million full time employees may lose their jobs entirely (3.2 Million Jobs at Risk: Another Painful Side Effect of ObamaCare | House Committee on Ways & Means). Expect an average of 14% added to the traditional premium increase if you already have health insurance; or around 30% if you make enough to not get subsidies (http://www.healthexchange.ca.gov/Doc...03-28-2013.pdf). And of course working class taxpayers will be on the hook for the latest cost estimates of $6.2 trillion (The Cost Explosion of Obamacare Begins to Hit Home).

How anyone think a President who absolutely insists on tax hikes (which primarily hit the wages of the working class) and ever-more government spending, debt and interest payments, is FOR the working class, average citizen? Every Liberal in the nation--especially the rich ones who so vocally support higher taxes--is perfectly free to pay MORE than the required income taxes.

Does Obama pay EXTRA taxes, considering that he has led a life of ease and wealth while NEVER having to suffer through a day at a stressful, demanding job? NO--HE USES EVERY LOOPHOLE IN THE BOOK TO PAY AS LITTLE AS POSSIBLE, in a tax system specifically designed with loopholes for the VERY rich (while exempting the bottom 50% entirely). Obama gets over $600,000 a year (while vacationing 1/2 the time and giving speeches the rest of the time) and pays only 18.4% in federal income tax?

Compare that to a working class couple trying to save for retirement (my family), with no "expense accounts" or other taxpayer funded breaks in cost of living, with no pensions, paying for 1/2 the cost of our health care thanks to Big Business employers--we send over 24% of our income (well under $200,000) to Washington after working insane hours in stressful jobs, and never getting more than one two-week vacation a year?

And WE are the "selfish" ones?

I don't think I'm either. I certainly don't fully agree with either one. Both parties are bought and paid for and full of hypocrites.
