This is the offending paragraph. Beware puritans, reading this may cause blindness...or something:
Spoiler
Until I was eleven or twelve, I didn't realize there was a second set of labia on the inside, since you couldn't see them. What's even funnier is that I thought urine came out of the clitoris…When you're standing up, all you see from the front is hair. Between your legs there are two soft, cushiony things, also covered with hair, which press together when you're standing, so you can't see what's inside. They separate when you sit down and they're very red and quite fleshy on the inside. In the upper part, between the outer labia, there's a fold of skin that, on second thought, looks like a kind of blister. That's the clitoris.
Your child is reading a book about a young girl living in hiding, desperately trying to avoid discovery because if she and the others are discovered, they will be killed. And they do die. And your issue with the book is that it's "pornographic"??? I don't think so.
I wonder what poor Anne would think if she knew that particular diary entry was in libraries across the world.
I know. I'm not offended about talking about anatomy like that, but I think it would have probably been a good choice to have edited that out, just out of respect for her. Those were her personal thoughts while she was going through puberty. Come on, people.
Instead of the mindset "I think its bad so everybody must think its bad", she should just exclude her daughter from that book.
If the mother really thinks that pornographic talk, just go listen to the conversations between periods at that middle school! She will be horrified!
This is human anatomy. A child should not have to feel uncomfortable about that. I bet that child cant say "breasts" in front of her dad without him getting all weirded out. Mom is just like a girl version of Hank Hill! Shelter shelter shelter!
Not sure what the fuss is about. I'm pretty sure that this is covered in fifth grade science, and it's definitely covered in seventh grade health class.

I'd hazard a guess that this student was "excused" from those classes.
