Appalling. The NYPD made the same amount of seizures stopping only 435,000 white people as they did stopping 2.3 Million black people in the in the same 8 years. Stop and frisk is obviously a way of harassing people of color in NYC.

What is the Black and White crime rate in NYC ?

Personally, the Stop & Frisk should be illegal for all.

I thought that NYC would be above this behavior. I don't see how it is constitutional.

This comment seems fitting for NYC's policy.

I shouldn't be surprised.

The fact that California is nutty doesn't make New York less nutty. Further, our population density allows for less extreme nuttiness.

If it's constitutional, then what's the problem?

Well, it's not always constitutional. It's only constitutional when the police have reasonable suspicion to believe someone poses a danger, has committed a crime, or is preparing to commit one. And police cannot use race as a criterion for any search and seizure. But New York City has faced allegations of unconstitutional policing against communities of color for a long time.
There are times when profiling is appropriate. But after reading the Mother Jones article I'm left with the impression that, yes, the NYPD appears to have been unfairly targeting people of color. The 'dark color' people. The Constitution and Bill of Rights applies to us all, equally. And we should all advocate fair and equal application of our laws.
