We all saw how the sequester screwed up air schedules. That suggests a trust fund to support air traffic funded by fees. Got me to thinking. What about taxing the weight and/or measurements of travelers. That would be a gold mine, given how the junk food industry keeps raising our average weight and dimensions . Finally a financial reward for all those hours some of us spend running and sweating.
A second idea: How about those who don't want TSA to fondle their junk pay whatever the traffic will bear I wonder what the ceiling would be where people would finally decide "I'd rather have my junk fondled than pay TSA to avoid it". Maybe they could pilot it at Atlanta, the busiest airport.
Just two ideas that amuse me while not requiring general increases in tax.
How would it be a tax when it is a private company charging a fee for a service? All they're saying is if you're so fat you take up two seats then you have to pay for both seats and if you don't like it take a different carrier or find other means to travel. That sounds fair to me.
I'm not referring to that idea that is being bandied about. That was to go into airline profit. My idea would be to provide money to keep the aviation traffic going rather than getting bogged down in the congressional stalemate. It definitely is a user fee just like the tax on gas. On the one hand, flights costs more. On the other hand, revenue shortfalls don't cause cancellations and missed connections.
